What do you drive. Not mx5

@ast: 1994 or maybe 1995. This was in South Africa, so the MX-5 attracted quite steep import duties.

There’s an echo of your dilemma with the TR6, as I could have bought a very clean 911S 2.4 for MX-5 money - but I’m cheap! To me, having a really nice/valuable car is a bit of a liability as it feels a bit wrong to drive it hard. On the other hand a bit of appreciation helps take the sting out of the costs of running an older car. I’m sorry I missed the boat on the NA when their prices bottomed out! I don’t think NB values will go the same way.

In terms of appreciation, the TR6 and air cooled 911 have the Mx5 licked.

golf & porsche

Looking back at the posts - I saw a BMW 328i Sport Coupe - I had a new one of those in 1998 - probably the car I loved the most - would love another. Currently I have a Golf GTi to go with my Mk1. I did have the Porsche Boxster - bought from new, but in the last 2 years I had it, I only did 1,000 miles in it and eth ast service, including brakes etc was £2,500 (!!!) so I sold it and bought the MX5 last year. Very different cars, but as the car was for fun, the MX5 is so much better and have done about 2,500 miles so far. Currently in the garage having a lot of welding work done to the bottom. Financially not worth it, but I want to keep it on the road and also in reality the total cost is not that much.

The JLR thing is an incurable disease/habit! Had Range Rovers (17) since 1987, and in addition various Discovery (1,3 &5), Freelander 1 and Disco Sport in the family too. I-Pace is the company vehicle and my disposable income is like having a major pay rise with the zero Benefit In Kind. It has been brilliant and, fingers crossed, reliable too. Don,t miss my Range Rover at all! Trying to resist the temptation to get an MX5 ND to add to the fleet as my NB is a track only car now.

Volvo V60, no shortage of PPE here!

It’s a Toledo SE Nav
The longest I’ve owned a car apart from the NC sport, now over 6 years. I usually part ways after 2-3 years but this one is doing the job just fine for now.
