What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 1)

Cobalt back box, very pleased with it, just a nice tone without been stupidly loud!

Showtime this weekend, so prep is underway.

Ongoing project.Done this lot in last couple weeks.

Ā

got that to do on my Eunos, both sides are battered

what did you use ?(ie, box section or a folded profile)

anyway, I’ve mostly done nothing to my car but did fiddle with this lot

Suzuki GSXR1300 Hayabusa itb’s being altered to fit a Jenvey manifold sitting on a modified head, I cannot stop fiddlin…

Rich.

75mm x 50mm x 1100mm u channel company at team valley Newcastle bent it for me.

In the past 3 weeks, bought an immobiliser bypass kit, new disks and pads all round, a stainless exhaust, Hard Top purchased and last night a 5 hour round trip to pick up a mohair soft topĀ Ā ( and a new tyre )Ā Ā Kwik fit special as they only had budget tyres available in my size and i was stuckĀ

Ā

Better be worth all this in the end !

Time to change the 7I0

Neat lift…

Was thinking the same and could do with one in my MX-5 life.

Two downsides with the lift.

It shoves the car through the roof if I use it in the garage.

Needs a nice smooth level slab of concrete. Note the bit of 3/4" ply on side and 1/4" ply the other. Couple of bits of 3mm plate for the rollers to, er, roll on.

Ā

I’m painting the garage with preservative. Back and sides done, front to do.

Undo a drain plug… Paint a wall while it drains. Undo another… You get the idea.

Gearbox in the morning and move the car before splashing preservative on the garage front.

We wouldn’t want to preserve MiXi would we.Ā Ā

Fitted my bargain Ā£140 mohair hood on Monday night, it was nearly new as described by the seller, just needs a clean as it’s been sitting for a year. Well chuffed and only took me and my brother 2.5 hours removal of the old one and refit with no instructionsĀ

Ā

Full service today on my ZSport with brake fluid, gearbox and lsd oils changed so good to go for another year. Only done 1500 miles since last service but keeps the service history complete.

Was considering selling as wife with a back and muscle condition struggles with access but such a great car don’t know if i can part with her, the car that is not the wife

The Niseko received a deep clean today.Ā  And the ā€œceramicā€ coating which has lasted so well from when I bought it, was also topped up in the lazy-man’s way with the el-cheapo Megs Hybrid Ceramic, and some Rain-X on the transparent bits.

To my (cynical) surprise it has actually improved its appearance.Ā  The blow dry afterwards helped as well.

The deep clean inside produced large quantities of dirt from some surprising areas, like the surfaces behind the passenger’s seat but not from behind the driver’s seat.

Why have I gone to such unusual trouble?Ā  I feel a bit of responsibility as organiser of our stand at the Uxbridge Auto Show to make my car look its best.

I said ā€œBu66erā€ because we have got a NC1 2007 PRHT. Just had new front right spring installed but now shock absorber is leaking. There was a large liquid pool on the driveway. At least it happeneedd at home!

Need to sort of course but it seems that PRHT springs and shocks vary according to whether PHRT or soft-top; NC1, NC2 or NC3 and also wheel size.

Best to replace in a pair of course.

That’s without thinking about lowering… hmm. What shall I do? Should i be tempted with all these speed bumps around?

Presume that buying 2nd hand is a real risk with shocks as don’t know the history… Any thoughts re parts appreciated please!

Ā

Note: been to local garage we use and now decided to get a new shock fitted and then have a think and sort out at some time in the future . . . .

Got home late and the serpentine belt and pulleys had arrived. Couldn’t stop myself!Ā

Ā

Did It in the garage, 32 degrees outside, god knows what the garage was, let alone the engine bay. Who needs a sauna

Ā

Anyway, old ones were definitely shot. Just spinning by hand you could hear the bearings were screaming. Much better now. Really satisfying job.

Ā

got the first motĀ in my ownership tomorrow morning…

started a thing …

Ā

got the wiring sorted this morningĀ

Fitted chrome vent rings & chrome instrument rings - made an amazing difference, my dashboard looks quite upmarket now!Ā

Fitted new to me wheels, which I rather like and some may not - a bit wide. Slung rear tyres on from my old wheels since the rear ones were toast. In doing so I discovered that no less than three springs were broken right at the top, losing a minimal amount of height but obviously need replacing asap. I’ll probably go standard since the roads here in the shire can be plain nasty.

My V5 arrived today, it looks like I have a very exclusive MX5. See below: its a 3 seater.

I can now hear you all opening your filing cabinets and checking V5s because, you never looked at it that closely before.

I have just double checked and cannot find the third seat, so my job today was sending it back to Swansea to be updated.
