Gave the callipers a coat of red paint, added chrome rings to the heater controls and installed a new stubby aerial. Then I gave her (mine’s a she) a good wash and polish.
My son’s NA started leaking power steering fluid. It was from the cooler pipe and had perforated at the register that the rubber hose is pushed up to.,. I didn’t fancy spending £160 on a new pipe so cut out the rotten section, about 2 inches, and bought some hydraulic hose and clips and made a new length to go to the reservoir. It was a lot of fiddling to get the cooler pipe off and then re fitted. Total cost about £10 and it is leak free.! I told him I had saved him about £400 if he had gone to a garage. “Well done Dad” was his priceless comment. Also took the opportunity to remove the wheel arch liner and clear out the rubbish at the bottom of the front wings.20200403_141544|375x500
Lots of corrosion on the aluminium boot on my NC, sanded it down and respirated the bits some outside but most in the boot.
Spent a few hours washing/ clay barring/ polishing and waxing , first time I have ever done this for years , really enjoyed it and pleased with the results .
Took it to Sainsbury’s and back for essential shopping. Started instantly after spending two weeks sat on the drive.
Just popped a new Pipercross air filter into the airbox.
That was 30 seconds of ‘Lockdown time’ well used.
Replaced the front wing on my sons fiat punto , not a bad job to do, he had an altercation with a focus … I did have to move my mx5 out of the garage to get to the tools!
Had a bit done today…all 4 suspension changed…for bilstiens plus 30mm drop linear springs…engine…gearbox…and diff oil changed…front and rear drop links…and poly anti roll bar bushes…I have a set of bilstiens with eibach 30 mm drop springs if any one is interested shocks rusty but no leakes springs have a bit of paint flaking…
MOT time for Una the Eunos and horn did not work. Fault traced to relay in engine bay that is located in a precarious position that allows it to be exposed to water ingress on spade terminals.
Took cover off relay, as horn push on Nardi steering wheel did produce a relay click under the bonnet, so not a fuse or wire issue. With cover off the relay I could operate relay solenoid manually and horn worked. Obtained a replacement relay from my local MX5 specialist and once fitted, normal service was resumed. MOT passed with flying colours-result👍
Took it out of the garage, cleaned inside, wash and polish and back in the garage and under cover til it’s safe to go out again.
Cancelled Green Flag renewal.
My car has been sat in the garage since 16th September (six months) and only came out two weeks ago for a twenty minuet shake down drive, then ‘lock down’ kicked in so no more pleasure drives for the foreseeable.
I don’t see the point of having another twelve months cover if all the car shows are cancelled and then winter sets in again.
Looks as though it’s going to be eighteen months before i can really enjoy my MX5 again.
After changing my gearbox & diff oil last week, I have changed my turret oil today. (NC 2.0)
Not sure if it is the placebo affect but definitely feels much more positive on shifting!
Next job is the hood, initially I bought one of the Autoglym kits but hasn’t really made much difference (mainly to the nasty stain above the drivers door), so I have now bought one of the Renovo kits & hoping for a bit more impact in view of how much it was !
Dropped my crystal Blue 2.5 off for chassis rails and rear cill welding…new panels
No date for pick up from my mate, just whenever he gets a chance. He got a new welding helmet for Xmas and was keen to try it out …on my car !!!
I started poking around the rails last weekend… stupidly but i guess they were needing done…i just sped up the issue ! Scottish weather ! arches are all perfect yet however so only the lower cill on drivers side. I guess that then leads me into a rear end paint as the last owner used the bumpers to locate the walls / kerbs when he was parking !
Where abouts ( roughly for PerSec) are you Craig?
sunny Ayr ( although not today yet )
