My OH unpicked an old cotton duvet cover and removed any studs, a nice lemon colour it is
The length and width just covers the car nicely all but for the rear bumper area, so I use another old sheet separately over the rear end draping down over that. Kept covered over winter it comes back out of the garage as clean as it was before lay up.
I’ve got a proper cover now so going add that over the cotton cover, I’ll need to keep an eye on things, air circulation and all that. I must say the air does circulate well in the attached garage as it is open to the air at the eaves and the wind whistles in under and around the door, vented and dry.
My Eunos has been SORN today and is in the garage and won’t be back on the road until all of the salt has gone. Due to damp and rain this week, on the next nice day it will be washed and waxed and then covered with a close fitting cotton cover, windows cracked open, couple of dehumidifier pouches and a battery minder. I always use a leaf blower to get most of the water off and out of the crevasses before “leathering” dry with an absorbent towel.
Added 10lbs extra air to each tyre to help avoid flat spots.
I use these in my Eunos and ND and I can recommend them.
Another vote for tossing a dehumidifier pouch in.
I have the same ones (bought two separately using this listing) and would recommend them to anyone.
Mine live in my NA and ND all year.
Our garage is integral to the house , so it never goes below 14 or 15 degrees in there so it’s always nice and dry in there . I usually do what Mick does and just throw a couple of soft sheets over it , and put the battery tender on . If we get a few dry days through the winter , and the roads are clean I get it out for the odd drive.
I have four in the car, keep the condensation down for about 4 weeks before needing drying.Mines kept outside and used once or twice a month.
One of the big Kenrock dehumidifier things (Halfords sell them for caravans) will last all winter in an MX-5. The windows should be left shut so it can really keep the air inside dry. You can buy big bags of CaCl2 crystals quite cheaply to refill it next year.
Don’t store anything edible in your garage - once the mice and rats have finished the potatoes or pasta, they may move onto your wiring loom!
Returned mine to 100% standard. With the exception of sound tube delete and auto windows. Wow it’s better. Mazda built it how I like it, all the modifications just ruined it a bit more at a time lol. No more lowered ride or spacers for me, and no loud exhausts! Oh I also kept the CF gear surround that’s cool.
eBay time.
Bought some tinted vinyl and put over the clear parts of the rear lights.
Gonna make some up for sale if anyone is interested?!
20mm spacers all around this morning. Admiral adjusted insurance for the admin fee. Not lowered though.
Longer studs?
Just ordered 2 from Amazon, I am the same kept outside and used infrequently at this time of year. Prefer the Audi A6 for the cold wet journeys.
No, they have studs built in to the spacer. Mx5parts has them. My tire specialist fitted them in 15 minutes and rotated my wheels to even the wear on the tyres now it’s had 23k miles. 110Nm torque if anyone is wondering. I’ll go back next week and gave them re torqued to ensure nothing has come loose in the first week.
Tinkered with my project NA:

Coolant replaced, tyres pumped up and dehumidifier pouch recharged before putting it back in the garage for winter.
Will need to get it out once more when it is sunny (sooner rather than later hopefully
) to photograph all the usual rust spots to get some quotes and send it off over the winter to get repaired and then resprayed, no more cyan!
Its got a Leeds registration number!

I didn’t know that! I have never actually looked in to the structure of pre-2001 plates except to find out the year so didn’t even know part of it indicated a location.
Makes sense though, should have really known
Washed ,Newly powder coated wheels fitted, Trickle charge leads fitted to battery and then put away for the winter
Wanted to take my Mk1 out for a last drive before SORN, but the battery was flat. It has been in the garage for at east 6 weeks and the trickle charger was not on (my mistake).
I put the trickle charger back on for a week, but still completely flat. It did have an alarm, but I thought I had completely removed it, but I think that there is still some of it left as I have a remote alarm fob and sometimes I need to press it as the car is immobilised.
I presume that the new battery I bought earlier in the year is now knackered? If I try jump starting it from another car, is it possible t get it working again?
Even if a jump actually does turn the mill over, there is absolutely no way the Alternator will best a charger trickle or full on.
It’s a big guess, but to ensure you don’t have some parasite discharge going on, whip the battery out (or disconnect it) then try a charge but from personal Gel Battery learning curves, if it’s goosed then “It’s Good night from Him” They don’t like it up 'em Sah.
Fortunately ( cough ?) Panasonics ( the “go to” choice) are cheaper these days…but at all costs avoid Westco…they are pretty krappachino.
I ain’t perfect…I’ve let two die for ever over 15 years myself through my lazy neglect.
Thanks, will give it a try tonight. Cannot remember which battery I got at the beginning of the year, but its not a Panasonic and does not actually fit properly anyway, so I may have to get a “proper” one - not from Halfords like last time, although that was because I wanted it quickly…
Cheapest place you will find by miles is TFM. An 063 MX5 battery is £46. Good brand and guaranteed.
