What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 1)

Today I compression tested the newly purchased engine. It was advertised as having good compression, but I just wanted to make sure. After a nervy few minutes, 180 psi across the board was a great achievement for a 23 year old motor!

Looks like a top and skirt to me, are you sure they are snoods? :flushed:

Yes they are snoods, at least I would not like to try to get one over my fat ■■■■. Will try them out tomorrow. Over my head that is.

Took my ND Recaro to Rodder’s for 4 tyres 215 instead of the standard 205 Khumo’s a full realignment check also an oil change with specialist high temp oil for the gearbox and diff, Firstly the tyres and alignment what a difference. Car feels planted and stable even in these cold damp days. A recommended upgrade. Wasn’t going to do an alignment as the tyres were evenly worn. If in doubt do it the difference is amazing. The oil though expensive has made the gearchange much smoother and slicker. The cold first to second now feels fine instead of clunky… Again recommend to everyone. Thanks again Rodder;s you are a gent.

Dared to send of some condemning pictures of rust to some welders for quotes :crossed_fingers: but likely to be uneconomical to actually repair :worried: guess I will just have to wait and see…

Well its easy to get things confused with modern clothing, I wondered why I was getting funny looks the other day when I had the lid down and was wearing a small Pink lacey snood around my head , but couldn’t understand why it had 2 leg holes in it.

Removed rear drop links, ARB, calipers, and discs. Seems like I have lost a brake spring, searched for 30 mins last night with no success, will look again today. Angle ground the drop links off the ARB.

Going to clean the discs and paint the hats with VHT paint and replace the drop links and ARB bushes.

After struggling, I found this video which is really good and may help others. :+1:

Can i ask what brake spring do you think you’ve lost.
If the NA brakes are the same as an NC they don’t have any springs, just anti squeal shims one of which has a ringer arm on the offside inner pad.
I have a brand new set of pads in my kitchen still in the box ready to be fitted.

They usually are.
My favourite pastime.

Hiya @safetymatch, need to update my profile picture, I have an NB icon (MY2000), it’s kind of ‘M’ shaped. Pinged off, my 12-year-old daughter said she would look for it today with a magnet…
Just cleared out my garage and spare parts bin, I had a couple, two weeks ago!

Could it be these?
ÂŁ7.15p mx5parts store.

That’s it, will have another search today with my daughter…

Good luck.
You will find it when you don’t need it…sods law.

If stainless, a magnet won’t work of course.

I think we all have a corner of the workshop/shed/garage where all those little bits fly off to! Springs, clips, tiny screws, circlips etc  Unfortunately, when I go there to find the particular bit that’s pinged off, it’s never there!

Good luck, hope you locate it, if not, as Dave referenced, they can be sourced :+1:

Asked him about making a shorter version of yours, as he can’t make a ball-shape, without grooves. I even sent a pic/diagram
No response.
Have ordered a Voodoo Magnum now, from Moss Europe.
Shame, I wanted to support him.

She found it in 1 minute…by the near side rear wheel. The inspection light magnet did pick it up.

Sprayed the offside disk hat, treated and painted subframe and offside rear wishbones. I will put the caliper and brakes back tomorrow and then make a start on the other side.

Changed out the Koni SRT coils which I’d only fitted last year as part of an extensive resto.
They are short & simply not urban friendly enough.
Back to OEM Roadster coils, but retained the Koni shocks so I’ll have to see how well that marriage goes.
How low can you go? Sometimes a bit too low…epic out on the fast B roads…but a 'mare around town.

Back to Roadster OEM’s from Andy at Autolink…helpful as ever.
