I think it will provide the best ride I’ve had in 15 years of ownership…new chassis & pukka OEM coils.
Here’s hoping ££££££
I have texted him a few times, in the end I found the only way was to call him. I find a lot of these smaller, independent workshop places are a bit lacking when it comes to their sales and communication with customers, shame really.
Voodoo shifters look good. I wanted a big shifter to dampen the notchiness of the 6 speed speed gearbox when it’s cold.
The old boy did look a bit on the low side there. hope he feels better now.
No idea yet as he is still ramped awaiting fitment of replacement PAS rack.
According to Andy Stott @Autolink, the new coils are identical to factory OEM JDM
I’ll need to repaint the front crossmember brace bar as it’s all scraped with Tesco hump impacts…albeit at walking pace with gritted teeth! Pretty undriveable around town really.
Will that be the Tesco store that is around 200 yards from your house?

Erm…yes.

Due to rusting rear disks, sprayed the disk hats, painted the wishbones and washed the inner arches.
Good job… Today I dropped my NC off at Preserve and Protect in Johnstone, just outside Glasgow, for an extensive (5 day) protection project.
I had that done in the summer. Have enjoyed it ![]()
Finished the near side rear, brake disk, diff oil change, ARB bushes and drop links. Start on the front next week…
Hiya @Ted_Keegan, Is this a keeper, hence the extensive work or do you usually protect your cars like this? Sounds expensive.
It is a keeper and your right it is expensive! Have a look at their website for the details. They come with a good reputation.
Peace of mind…will definitely be worth it for a keeper.
Picked my car up from BBR GTI today. It’s been lowered with eibach anti roll bars, 6 pot wilwoods, super 220 engine upgrade, exhaust centre section and back box. Now running 222bhp!
Have to say, great service from the guys and first impressions of car are very positive.
Hi Satoshima,
I had the BBR Super 220 conversion done to my car a couple of months ago but it only managed to produce 215 bhp compared to the 220 advertised with the standard exhaust centre section and rear silencer box. It did not have the BBR exhaust centre section fitted but it was fitted with the catted manifold and the BBR GT rear box. Did you have the catted manifold fitted and what maximum torque figure does your car now produce?
Cheers.
I didn’t opt for the extra cat and have the gt box as the sport isn’t ideal on the motorway.
She is making 173.5 bl/ft at 2850 rpm. Apparently the latest map sacrifices a small amount of top end bhp for more bhp/torque lower down the rev range.
Do you find the start/stop seems a little slower, or is it my imagination?
Assuming the hardware is the same why compromise top end? Map for both. It’s only numbers in boxes you don’t have to swap apples for bananas.
My BBR Super 220 had 170 lb-ft torque at 4750 rpm. I expect the difference of 7 bhp is I had the catted manifold (2 bhp loss) fitted but didn’t opt for the BBR exhaust centre section (which adds 5 bhp) as I had already exceeded my budget by having to fit the BBR GT rear box. This was required because I was told that the car was only achieving 200 bhp on the dyno with the original Cobalt box rear box fitted, which was disappointing. So the figures do tie up I suppose. I too was told that the latest map sacrifices a small amount of top end bhp for more bhp/torque lower down the rev range. My torque curve does not dip like yours at 2500 rpm though and rises from just under 140 lb-ft at just over 2000 rpm to around 160 lb-ft at just over 3000 rpm. Interesting! I think that BBR needs to change it’s marketing material to reflect the change in mapping and manage customer expectations. I am very happy with the on road performance and may one day fit the BBR exhaust centre section.
Not noticed any difference with the i-stop though.
Interesting comment Mr Barry. Surely if they could increase low down torque without losing top end power they would do so. I would possibly have preferred top end power to an increase in torque as the increase in torque puts more load on the gearbox which has has had robustness issues on earlier versions, potentially decreasing reliability. This is why I went for the Super 220 modification rather than using a turbo conversion as this would substantially increase the torque loads on the gearbox.
