What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 1)

A 1986 90 with a 200 tdi engine so not strictly speaking a Defender but most people know then as such.
Yes, the chassis is rot ridden. Last two MOT have had me welding rear spring mounts, rear outriggers plus odd patches. This year more holes and front outriggers to do. Want to put a galv chassis on but will have a proper look when the tub is off. Roof and sides already off
So many badly driven 4x4s on the road today.

We had a 1993 200 TDI as our first Defender I had to put a patch in the rear cross member on that and replace the bottoms of both front door frames, fortunately when Ford owned them they changed the doors to galvanised steel and did away with the aluminium over steel. We have had 5 Defenders in total, we love them. Unfortunately you do get a lot of dicks out there when the weather gets interesting.

Lol. Good choice of word. Short snd succinct. Over computerised cars driven by people without basic driving skills or condition understanding. When we go off road it’s all slow and steady
They are great and rubbish in equal measure. I always relate to my mini and German shepherds. They look right in any situation. .

Love this.

What a lovely looking car, splendid job, hats off to ya :+1:
This is more my level
sunbeam

Still needs less than mine. Lol

I don’t think that it would hit a ton with all the drag from that spoiler. 50 mph at the most.

Scooped a handful of snow off it and decided to leave it where it is. Still up the road from the house, but safer up there as the police still have the road blocked just down from us and it makes it easier for residents who are arriving to take possessions away to turn their cars round

Could be worse,

Thanks very much, it was a true labour of love as it was for my wife, kept me in a lot of ideas for birthday and Christmas presents for a few years. Funny thing is when we got the NB, even though the car was very low mileage and very good overall condition the chassis legs had some small patches welded on for the MOT but I didn’t like them but I really couldn’t face doing the job so I farmed it out to an MX5 specialist to do, obviously still scared mentally.

That’s brilliant, I’ve seen a few of these remote controlled Landys on the toob and when filmed right like your one, they can look quite realistic. A man of many talents, did you build it yourself?

I wish! However having seen this one I am tempted to do a “Lockdown Landy” when it gets a bit warmer and I can disappear into the shed. Slushy on here is going to do a Spitfire so perhaps I can do a LR …

I see you have the Spitfire in the garage, I have a soft spot for them as our first "sports car " was a 1500 Spit , full body jolts when you hit a pothole, but we loved every minute of it, and we were lucky with reliability as well, had very few problems over the 5 years we had it in the late 70s, early 80s , sold it when I finished Building college and bought a Datsun estate to carry my tools etc

Spitfire was such a cool looking car. I had one back in the 80s. Rotten as a pear but lovely lines and great just sitting on the tyre working on the engine.

That was my first restoration after years of doing other people’s cars, lots of Fords and BL mot failures, sold it for too little money but still enough to get a good low mileage NB. We had a 1980 1500 Spit as our daily car, it was 2 1/2 years old when we got it and it came with the hard top and the first time I removed it the wife drove round the block and thought I had left something loose because of the amount of body shake it had, the Alpine was very good in that respect, even after I’d finished welding it back together.

My bro has a sunbeam which is a nice little car. Did have an original M3 but sold it.
I have my Autotune Gemini which thankfully has little work to do except relocate chassis rails. Will be fun when back together.

The series 3 Alpine is the one to have. I had to look up what an Autotune Gemini was and it looks great, the Elva was a good looking car. You seem to have a few projects on the go

Probably too many but hey ho. Still, the Gemini has a 4 ltr V8 ready to go in so power to weight will be bonkers
