How does the newly painted panel look next to the originals? Normally the blending part is the most difficult to get correct. Looks like a very good job.
Trying to protect my Cobalt exhaust from rust. I know it’s stainless steel but they still rust around all the welds. Not really a fan of VHT paints, time will tell.
Received my new GPS tracker yesterday. Got it mainly for my motorhome but its portable so can put in any vehicle, but handy for the mx5 when we start going out again. They had them in aldi for about £40, but were sold out locally so got it from halfords for £45. It’s by streetwize, not a bad bit of kit to keep track of things in case of theft.
Hi,
Because I don’t know the answer.
I see it needs a sim which is fine.
BUT if you mount it under the bonnet can the thief not just rip it out and throw it away?
Or do you hide it like the expensive ones.
Would appreciate your views/thoughts.
Thanks.
I think the idea is you put it somewhere hidden and presume that the thief will not find it and remove it before you fine the car.
It is unlikely that anyone will expect it to be tracked.
I know that some car thieves take a car, put it somewhere else on a side street and if the police have not found it in a couple of days, they presume that it is not tracked. Easier than tearing a car apart trying to find a tracker that may not be there…
Exactly that. Free public car parks, country lanes etc are the usual places they used to use but these days they are brazen and just use housing estates.
Fitted my Just Send It door bushes yesterday.
They are not quite plug and play, as they come oversize or at least they were oversize for the cups on my car.
It was necessary to sand them down to an exact sliding fit in the cups before fitting but the upside of this is that they will be an exact fit.
The bushes appear to have been 3D printed as they have thin horizontal stripes or layers.
They came very nicely packaged and almost gift wrapped in what looks rather like Xmas paper.
No instructions but I did find some on YouTube.
Basically , you sand to a fit, do up the bolts loosely, open and shut the door a few times to align them, tighten them more and repeat a couple of times until tight and aligned.
The doors do shut more solidly now but I haven’t had a chance to test for creaks etc yet.
The red lettering on mine looks to have been produced by sticking indivual letters in place.
Its a neat enough job.
Hi, you have the option to hardwire it in, or its rechargeable. I will keep mine mobile and just hide it on either the car, motorbike, or mx5. Its comes with a sim, which is with 1pmobile. Its pay as you go so I put £30 on it and that should be sufficient for a year. If you want more detail have a look on the streetwise site where they have the detailed manual. I thought for the price and the fact that you dont need to subscribe it was pretty good.
Thanks for that. I had one (with tracking etc etc) installed on my motor home and asked about taking it off and putting it another vehicle. Yes I could have done and paid for removal and another fee for fitting and couldn’t transfer the subscription!! So didn’t bother.
That’s why I asked so will look into it. (Got some time to spare at the moment ).
I’ve just made an initial contact with JR Classics in Doncaster about getting my ND2’s underbody protection sorted. Just saw them do the Alfa Romeo GTV on Salvage Hunters - Classic cars, and they are only an hour up the road for me Anybody here know them or used their services?
Yeah spot on. It was only a small area that he painted (the filled area). The rest is just wet n dry sanded back from over spray to blend in. There was no hard edge so once painted and sanded back it was given 2 coats of cutting compound but I didn’t see what he used as the final polish. But one thing we did get talking about was that he was using an orbital machine. Not a DA. So clearly he knew what he was doing.
The finish I have to say is amazing! The nose cone is all polished against panels that haven’t been machined since August last year. So probably looks a bit out at the moment.
Am glad you got a really good job done on your Pride-And-Joy… Why do these incidents only happen when you have a really nice car…! At least it’s sorted and looking great again
