MX5 Parts. It’s quite expensive, but having wasted money on eBay/Amazon generic cr@p, it’s well worth the money.

Hi all,

Just took my MK1 out for its final “long drive” this year before winter arrives through the Essex/Suffolk countryside to drop off an air compressor to do some work on my brother’s Cayman.

I had to remove the passenger seat to fit the bloody thing in!

The drive back was epic. I purposely took the scenic route to get the most fun out of the drive back.

Before any more winter driving, I’ll be doing a “rust delete” and underseal removal, followed by a re-application using bilt-hamber products. I’ll create a thread to document my progress if anyone is interested.

The sills are in fairly good condition, but there is some surface rust showing in the rear arches next to the sill. Time to get out the angle grinder to get to the bare metal before repainting and sealing.

Hope everyone else has managed to get out whilst enjoying this unusually warm time of year.

Cheers,

George

96K miles and counting… my BBR MX5 desperately needed some Extreme Gleam Detailing by Tom

Colour painted the PHRT cover cuz it was previously painted to get rid of bubbles but it had a hint of too much green.

Body cleaned, degreased and cleaned ceramic putty then polished all around. I could see my face reflection on the paint :joy:

Wool duster finish was the cherry on top of the cake

Used daily not stored/covered/put away

Looking Very Smart 96k miles :sunglasses: too

I finally replaced my old mirror mount with the new version I have designed. Previous mounts were 3d printed in PLA and PETG and over time both of them warped and bent under sunlight. Newest version is printed using ABS which should withstand the heat and temperature a lot better.
The mirror is actually a front and rear camera and the stereo is an alpine with wireless car play so no messing about with wires, just chuck it in the dock and away we go.

Had winter tyres fitted to some smaller wheels by the always excellent Grande Tyres Whickham

Maybe a couple of weeks earlier than ideal but I had the day off work

The wheels look so much smaller than the 17"

Changed the spark plugs and HT leads - pre-covid was the last time they were changed.

Looks like the HT leads were on their way out and the plugs that came out don;t look too clever - comments on them?

Both cheap enough to just replace, I would.:+1:

Oh I’e replaced them - both plugs and HT leads - put in/on IL Motorsports ones and NGK plugs

Ah I follow now, plugs look very old, lots of crud around the threads and central electrodes don’t look great. Seem to be the correct colours though burn wise, definitely not oily.

Started Assembly of the Hand made Gill Vents Ready now for fitting to my ND

Fitted a repair kit to a spare clutch master cylinder in case I need it. Recently replaced clutch slave, but pedal keeps going, but will pump up, so I suspect air. Struggling to bleed as normal, so am going to try a pressure bleed and if that doesn’t do it I will replace the master.

Decided to investigate the dreaded rust problem under the rear bumper.
Happy to say, it’s actually not bad at all with only surface corrosion in a few places.
I had sprayed black body schutz up around the rear end years ago and after cleaning some off to see if there was anything bad, I’m glad to see nothing worse than what’s in the pics.

Good catch and well worth the effort👍🏻
I did mine this year and it was in about the same state.
