What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Yep 4 operations still 18 stitchers in one eye but on the mend now one set close work the other worn as the garage lighting can be too bright ….

That looks nasty. I had cataract surgery about 22 years ago in one eye and now have to wear glasses for reading and close work.

Very nice

Very busy day, up at nice early to get a list of jobs done.
Nothing finer than messing with your scuttle grommets in the sunshine, also got the hood Renovo’d and Fabsil’d.
Whilst the scuttle was off gave everything a good clean, greased the wiper motor arms, gave the cover and wiper arms a good clean.
Always liked white lettering on tyres so I thought why not?
Then got into the interior to swop over the gear and handbrake gaiters.
Finally I’d seen a post where someone had tried using old bike tyre inner tubes and streched them over the door bushes…the door definitely closes with a tight clunk.
Looking forward to giving it a good wash polish and wax tomorrow.

Billetworkz gear knob. Lovely quality and very stylish, I think. I thought about going for a bold colour but I like the fact it looks sort of standard. Ignore the mark on it - it’s just some fluff!

Nice work.
Very neat tyre lettering. May I ask how you did it and what you used please?

Can you tell me where got those gaiters from please? The one on my handbrake has a hole in it so need to get it swapped out…

Thank you, I used a Toma tyre lettering pen. The lettering on the Uniroyals is quite small, patience is the key. It was difficult not to go over the edges as the nib is approx 2mm and I don’t think a smaller one is available.
Built it up and carefully wiped off the excess off with white spirit once dry which today wasn’t too long!

I bought it off ebay from JF Customs they do different colours, I’m looking at getting the matching dash cowl cover also.
Good quality too

Thanks for the explanation.
It looks like you were very successful.
Where did you find the tyre pen please?

Thank you, yes I’m pleased for my first attempt. I bought two off ebay.
Give it a go !

Can you tell us about your gaiter please, Ben.
Love the subtle red stitching. Very classy.

That’s actually just the stock ND gaiter, so I can take no credit for that! :grinning:

So today I’ve just finished installing a Garmin Mini 2 dash cam… On offer at the moment in Argos…

Nice and straight forward to wire around the window and down the side of the dash and plugged in to the hidden 12v socket below… Bit fiddley to get set up to start but now its done it all good… The camera itself is tiny!! disappears behind the mirror nicely

Are these things legal in the UK? Not here in Austria…

David

Surely you can have a camera that records your journey. I know speed camera alert systems are illegal in many countries but never heard of dash cams being forbidden.

What’s illegal is to be able to see the screen (if fitted) whilst driving. It has to have auto-screen off screen saver enabled or be out of drivers vision.

Lot of European countries have different rules ref cameras and speed camera warnings so it’s best to check prior to any border raids!

From the pic above I think the garmin is just a camera with no video screen?

Hi Jeff, thats correct the Garmin Mini has no screen, it relies on your phone’s screen to see the footage and change settings (via bluetooth/wifi) etc
