What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Friend just used Turtle Headlight restorer.

The only way I’ve ever found it does a proper job is to work through the grades with wet and dry. Started by masking any surrounding paintwork and then began sanding with 800 grit and ended with 2500-3000. Finished off with some farecla g3 compound on a drill pad and a cut and polish.

I’ve waxed them for now but they will need sealing with a proper lens sealant, however if they ever need a buff again it will be a lot less work next time.

Swapped out the indicator lights for IL Motorsport’s smoked ones

Gave the new (to me) car a good once over to see what I was working with. Very happy with it overall .

Fighting some ash fallout today, thought it was snowing at one point, back in the garage, then out again.
Edit… apparently it was a barn fire approx 5 miles away.

So finally finished the detailing.

The pricing doesn’t make sense…frustrating!

Got rid of the green mould on my roof around the rear window, and cleaned the headlights. Couldn’t be bothered to clean the rest of the car, that will have to do. I hate cleaning cars

Engine, Gearbox and Rear Diff oils changed in my Sport Black.
A few bits of light crud on the Gearbox magnetic plug, but no teeth or cogs on it!

Clayed, cut, polished and waxed. :sunglasses:

She has scrubbed up very nicely!

Thanks Simon. Was a lot of work!

Do you have window tints?

No, it’s the overhead lighting makes the interior look very dark being a black interior :+1:

Written it Off! :sob:

Setting out on my way to the National this morning I hit the back of another vehicle at about 15mph and the front airbags went off. I’m OK, only a slightly scorched right wrist but unmarked otherwise. Sadly my dear little Niseko is much worse off.

My dashcam footage suggests my brain is slowing, because being worried about the bikers tailgating me I was not paying enough attention to the cars in front and the possibility of a pedestrian suddenly appearing in front of them, until about five metres too late. It’s a sign that after almost sixty years without a major accident my motoring is probably coming to an end.

The car is now an obvious write-off because of the consequential cost of replacing the passenger airbag (ie dashboard out) plus all the associated SRS modules, seatbelts, the windscreen broken by the passenger airbag, and of course the front bumper.

So while I have a perfectly drive-able low mileage (34k miles) previously immaculate garage queen with everything working (apart from SRS system) and almost no obvious external damage other than windscreen and dented bumper it is time to claim on the insurance and say bye-bye.

I’ll put it back to standard; the few useful extras make no difference to the insurance value, but might be of interest to others here.

Moral: Disable passenger airbag at all times unless carrying a passenger.

Blimey that’s terrible, gutted for you.:sleepy:
It can be mended and painted but at what cost, are you going to do it?

So sorry to hear this :disappointed::disappointed:

As a side note :memo:
I saw a mx5 on eBay being sold by Mazdadudes , this also had had airbag damage and been repaired.
They stated that they have done many with this sort of damage.

Maybe worth asking if they’ll repair for you or if they want to purchase it from you :thinking::thinking:

I see a re’build on the way. S/H parts easy fix . Bye back from the insurance co. Look’s to good to go for scrap. My son did the same this year on a 59 plate clio . Only 32.500.on the clock. He got £2350 then payed them £300 for the car.

Way to go. 50 years between accidents is a positive. You’ll be 127-y-o by the time you have another one.
