Distracted and intimidated by a mirror full of tailgater?
Been collecting these reproduction Automotive plates for a while and kept my plate from my cars when living in Canada as these where quite special to me being from the times of the Olympics in 1988 but they where just gathering dust so I updated man cave two… ![]()
Still have six more to fit when the clear coat drys should be all dun Saturday……
New set of tyres fitted last week.![]()
Some more PS71s Mick?
Most definitely, on set 4 now, not all on the same vehicle mind.![]()
May I ask, do you rate the ps71’s? I was looking to get some eagle f1’s for this car but if a 215 ps71 would be more than grippy enough on these I may as well save a few quid.
Thanks.
Yes, bought the current NC with a set of 215’s already on, replacement are the same tyre/size. Previous NC had the KU39 's on, they were 205.
Daily driver has the 16" HS51’s on, so you can say I like them.
OK nice one. I have had one set of ku39 on a bmw 545i and they seemed fine (le sport I think they were). Are they OK for mixed daily/spirited driving or too noisy for every day? I’ve heard that’s the only real complaint with them.
I got my NC from Roddison’s just over a year ago with 215 PS71s on and was told going up to 215 was quite common and an improvement over standard.
Was also told the Kumho’s are very good.
I have nothing to compare against but trust what Paul told me ![]()
Well that’s 2 votes for them, sounds good to me. And at 80 quid odd a corner I won’t complain
.
Oh and this will be on an 8j rim.
If I couldn’t get Kumho another option (for me) would be Rainsports. Had them on my Mk2 in 15" size, they were great in the wet stuff, as are the Kumho.
I think the Kumho’s on my daily driver are really quiet, but they will be compared to the harshness of the Bridgestones they replaced.
I think with any tyre fitted to the MX-5 will had a certain noise transmitted through to the cabin, it’s the nature of the beast.
Had rainsports too and really liked them, but they didn’t wear well. I think I’ll just go for the kumhos then. There’s currently some falken ziex on there and theyre OK for now.
I run PS71s as well, in the same size as Mick. Mine are on a 7.5J wheel and work well.
I think they’re pretty quiet overall. Certainly no issue doing a decent motorway run, put it that way. As I said on another thread about them, with the general cabin noise in an MX-5 they’re certainly not the noisiest contributor!
Thanks, that’s 3 for the ps71’s. My wallet thanks you ![]()
I think they’re a genuinely decent option, and the fact they’re well priced is a bonus. Mine get a fairly hard time across spirited B-road routes and I’ve done hillclimb and sprint sessions with them as well.
No complaints and they’re wearing well. I also find them surefooted and confidence inspiring in the wet ![]()
I honestly probably won’t be using the car in the wet anyway - I have a daily for that. Besides, if nc’s are already prone to rusting and leaking I’d sooner leave the water out of it where I can ![]()
Tomorrow will be a sad goodbye to my dear little was-immaculate Icy Blue Niseko.
COPART will be taking it away some time between 7am (ouch) and 5pm.
I guess the salvage boys will be making a fortune from it, never an advisory or fail, no rusty panels or subframes, immaculate interior (except for the belts and bags!) etc
I’m still haggling on the final settlement, and hope only 34,200 and a closer visual inspection rather than just the photos will add a little bit more. This especially so after I’ve seen what is currently on offer in the market place.
When my daughter totalled her car, I argued with the insurance company assessor about value and gave him several examples of similar cars/mileage available to buy. I pointed out that their offers fell way below these examples and the agreed value of her car, again pointing out she paid more for that agreed value over the value they said it should be worth at point of insurance sale. Happily, he came round to my way of thinking and although she didn’t get the full amount we were looking for, the offer came pretty damn close. So dig your heels in, do some research and argue your case.
Exactly this. Keep sending them examples of cars currently for sale, as close to your car’s condition (pre-accident!) as possible.
Best of luck with it ![]()
You can remind them of one of the 6 principals of Insurance - one of which is to put you back in the same position as you were in immediately prior to the loss.
