Put my hardtop back on this morning, come to fit the heated rear window loom that I have put in a safe place, I can’t find it
Treated the car to a new set of windscreen wipers. £12 well spent! Amazing what a difference new wiper blades make to any car.
(Also: The photo guilt-tripped me into cleaning the car afterwards)
At the beginning of last week I decided to prep my 2009 NC 2.0 for her annual winter snooze, so out came the Waxoil, and my new ramps, up she went and after 2 days or wire brushing and prepping on went the Waxoil .
After that a really decent wash and polish and then on went her winter covers , 3 of them, can’t be too careful up her in the NE of Scotland so close to the sea.
Finished on Wednesday , and with a sense of a job well done I went to bed, and woke up to Storm Babet trying her best to blow all the covers off and turn the MX into a boat.
Fortunately the covers held, and being on the top of cliffs meant that flooding wasn’t an issue. ut all in all a hellva few days , but it’s now calm warm and dry and so surprisingly is the MX,
Roll on summer!
Really mundane stuff.
Oil level and other levels check.
Tyre pressure check, the back end didn’t feel right “tramlining” I think it used be called, both about half a bar too low. Need to keep an eye on those.
Exterior clean using autoglym polar blast, wash and seal with a hand dry. Never EVER done that four step process on any car we’ve owned before. Took half an hour to find and sort the power washer out. Buried at back of garage.
Gummigm-ed the seals on doors and prht.
Fast glassed all the windows and the mirrors, and the wipers.
Interior hoover and clean tomorrow as The Boss found a stretch of hedge near her greenhouse that needed a significant trim and as I was “feeling energetic” .
A few updates today.
Headunit upgrade with a Sony for Android Auto connectivity. Including the de-install of a Bury Bluetooth kit that had been in the car from new. A very tidy install job I must say
Then while I had the centre console out, I fitted some alcantara gaiters for handbrake and gearstick. Went with silver stitching to match the body colour.
Ooh, liking the Alcantara.
Where from?
How much??
And I’m looking rather enviously at your very funky in-car entertainment unit there, Steve!
Tried on the new shoes. Will go back to the stock wheels until I’ve had an alignment. Happy to see that despite the wheels being an inch wider and the tyres a bigger profile, I’ve only added 200grams per corner.
Arrived a few weeks back for the ND but being fitted tomorrow along with a brake fluid change.
Opted for the grooved/dimpled discs up front (for looks more than anything) with OEM spec pads and OEM spec rear discs and pads.
Remember to change the clutch fluid as well!
Thanks. Gaiters from JF Customs on eBay:

Think I paid around £30. They do the odd discount code, usually pops up in eBay notifications after a day or two, if you save an item in your watchlist
Looks good, what size and offset are they please? And tyre size?
17x8 et42 on 215/45/17 .
I agonised for ages over the fitment, but it seems good. May need a light roll in the back if the suspension were set to soft but nothing major at all.
Cheers. I’m in the same situation, so many choices and can’t seem to make a decision to save my life!
Try and get hold of the Mazda front lip if you can, would really suit yours.
Yes it’s having fluid change too
Lovely

Guess what I found today after the replacement turned up from MX5Parts for £25
Some good news and bad with my 5 today… Had my new brakes fitted with no issues… However as I’m paying my mechanic said “have you noticed that your driver window is really slow”… I said I hadn’t used the car for 2 days so I haven’t…
Either way, he took me out to the car and he pressed the button and sure enough the window was going down at a snail’s pace… So brains here tried and pressed the button again… The window went down with a some crunches… Stuck!! So from having brakes done to a pooped window regulator…
Thankfully the garage arranged to store my car in the dry until the new part comes. What a day!
