What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Lucky you at the garage… my drivers side regulator went en route to GP appt…suddenly less worried about my health and more worried about the window being stuck half way down
Straight to my non specialist garage…bless them…they locked the window in the Up Position…no charge… until I could afford new regulator :+1:

And weirdly after 65 yrs things seem to ‘go wrong’ in threes’ …worse year the microwave, the cooker and the fridge-freezer ! :grimacing:

Aaa I remember the olden days…manual wind-up windows on vehicles that would have probably kept me muscles in better order than they are today

Yes thats true, I’m glad the windows decided to break at the garage as if it broke at home it would be on the driveway with the window wide open haha… Hopefully the new part will be here tomorrow and then the mighty mazda will be back on the road

Did the NC non-Bose JVC co-axial speaker upgrade.

Easy job following instructions on here (plus a quick diversion to YouTube for the door handles on my 2014 model). Less than an hour start to finish, including replacing the inevitable broken trim clips and doing the drivers door twice because I forgot to reinstall the water deflector.

Sound much improved.

Arrived today but technically being fitted on Tuesday…

Ultra light Flywheel (MX5 Parts 4.25kg)
Exedy Stage 2 Cerametallic Clutch
Millers 75-90 Gearbox OIl Change
and Denso Iridium Plugs going in

Should make it a little more interesting

Modern Technology…looking on the bright side

Reckon I could poke somebody eyes with the ‘strength’ I now have in my left hand two front fore-fingers from winding the regulators up and down in the NB

Yep…Concur…my main worry whilst at the GP with window half up was how vulnerable she was in the car-park…couldn’t concentrate on GP appt…fortunately that worked for both of us …we got thru me concerns in record time

So pleased with myself, going slightly out of my comfort zone and fixing my window regulator myself! I was worried I’d smash my window… Surprisingly this wasn’t a terrible job to do

Popped the cap off the motor to find rusty brown gunk coming out along with some frayed cables… The only way was to cut the cable and struggle!

Here is the old article… Considering the car is 8 year old now its lasted well…

Originally the car went in for the discs and pads, those were all fine and are starting to bed in now too…

Hats Off :mortar_board:

Would have cost pennies for Mazda to make the regulators with stainless steel cables.

haha so true, my Mountain bike has better gear cables!

Spent a large chunk of pension on these plus a new windscreen scuttle

My Eunos is in for a strip-down respray so don’t want to spoil the finished look with tatty badges

In perhaps the biggest single day’s effort of the 2.5 swap, today I go the passenger side washer working properly. Hey, it was really annoying!

More usefully, pretty much got the last parts in the bay bolted down and properly tidied away, which meant I could finally also give it a wash and get rid of a whole lot of random oil and fingerprints and grease, good for the soul. And slung all underbraces in, purely so I won’t be constantly tripping over them in the shed. Tune aside, that’s the 2.5 swap itself completely done- but still got to redo the intake, get the wings and nose back on, and finish rebuilding the front suspension and arms. Really looking forward to having it back on its wheels, if only because the daily needs some work and I’ve only got space for 1 car. But day off tomorrow and sunday is really heavy rain so that’s going to be a couple more days.

Roof maintenance today. Seals cleaned and treated :+1:

Hi
Just spotted that you are having your Eunos re sprayed! We own a 1991 Limited Edition with water damage from being covered in storage for three years. May I be cheeky and ask how much it will cost?
Thank you
Gill

It started reasonable, but I’ve added work, complete strip down, windscreen out, doors off, cills, doorshuts etc etc so not cheap. Add on new expensive genuine mazda parts such as badges, windscreen shuttle, door fittings and rubbers, kick plates, various rubbers and there won’t be any change out of £3,500. This includes replacing one wing, the nearside one which collects leaves and other detritus as it was either cut out, weld or replace. Replacement was a better option as it was in for a respray and not a repair.

That being said, once it was up on the chassis stand with wheels off, liners out, it proved that the car is really clean (no real rust) as, as far as I know, it’s never been on a salted road.

Cills and other voids were treated when it was imported in 2015 but I will get them redone when the work is finished. The interior is going to be redone as well, I had the seats recovered and new door cards a few years ago and will attack the carpets etc when I get the car back.

Although the majority of the paint was OK on the sides, the bonnet, boot, door tops which get full sun were going various shades of pink rather than red, a couple of mopping sessions delayed the decision to respray for a couple of years but couldn’t ignore it much longer. OCD perhaps? :joy:

Sorry for the long answer, I had to re-justify to myself why I’m spending this amount! The car is a keeper. Photos below post last mopping and a lot of polishing.

Went out in the rain yesterday, bit hairy with the back end on roundabouts so replaced the 14yr old tyres with new ones. Alignment booked in, in a fortnight to give the rubber some time to scrub in.

What new ones did you get fitted?

Midrange Fuldas to match the fronts, so now running Ecocontrol HPs all round. So far, so good.

Finally glad to be able to add again. The clutch had started to slip so am now happily running the Exedy Stag2 Cerametallic Puck Clutch with the MX5 Parts Ultra light flywheel.

I’m only a couple of hundred miles in so not bedded in fully yet but what a difference it makes, the clutch isn’t that much heavier than the stock pedal, the bite is something else, yes it is grabby (on/off) but more than manageable as you don’t really notice it bar moving off from stand still and reversing but still not ott. While at it the gearbox oil was also changed to Millers, plugs changed to Denso Iridium and an oil change to Millers 5w30 with a K&N Oil Filter

It really dies transform the car
