What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Today was MOT day… Passed with only one advisory “Surface rust to suspension components and chassis”

I should have asked if there is a certain area that brought this up, but I did notice that when I was doing the oil change on the weekend that the bottom of my shocks were pretty crusty looking.

That said, its not too bad for a 65 plate car in the wettest country around haha!

Nice one, too cold for me atm, I need to do the same and soon, mot is next month and I feel it needs sorting before then

Thank you, it’s probably easier if you break it down into smaller areas rather than looking at the car as a whole.

I did one rear arch yesterday, hopefully tomorrow I’ll be working on the heat shield, boot floor and exhaust.
Yes its cold some days but, I wrap up have a warm drink or three at the end of the day you get a feeling of a satisfaction and achievement…Go for it!

Not quite done today…but I thought I’d pass on a solution to a problem some have about the dreaded rear end knock. Many blame droplinks or worn bushes, but in many cases it can be brake pad rattle. So I’ve found this stuff to be a godsend in eliminating that clunking noise.

Having a break, having a good day

Exhaust off, heat shield off, underside of the boot floor treated up to the nearside wheel arch, exhaust cleaned and polished, wasted too much time trying to make the heat shield look presentable (should have taken Deans advice) :person_facepalming: new one on order, should I treat the new one with an extra coat of VHT?

Time for dinner

Fitted a catch can, hopefully prevntative medicine for the gummed intake valve “issue”. Standard skinned knuckles, not much access down there!

Not so much what I have done, but had it in for MOT this week, failed on track rod ends and a binding brake (I knew it would)

So while it’s been in it’s having new calipers, pads + discs, plus a timing belt change and a new water pump inlet pipe as the old one was leaking coolant. Hoping to have it back on Saturday but might be Monday. Can’t wait, of course I picked the nicest week of the year so far to have all the work done

Couple of hours of hours to kill before work.

Took mine to the dealer as after only 500 miles from new one of the front discs has slight scoring on it. Told it will go away and its due the low miles/use of the car. Time will tell.

Not long got my car back from Alex at Performance link , full underbody restoration including complete overhaul of all underside components. You name it, its new under there. Wheels, Suspension, bearings, polybushes, brakes etc etc

EDIT: Forgot to add the picture of the rottiserie chicken!

Wow what did that cost- tempted as had stuff done but not confident done well.

As I have had a lot done, its thousands to get it to look like this. But Alex will happily give you a quote based on what you want / need.
This isn’t a slap some underseal over your current rusty subframe situation like some other people do. It’s a proper engine out restoration.

Wow, not sure I have the commitment for my true red 2014, she’s a bit low for me now so may need to go soon☹️. However I do like the idea of a well finished car.

Luckily no rust mine seems to gave dodged that🤞🏻
