Thank you, like many owners on here I spend quite a bit of time tinkering with it whenever I can
Look on eBay for motorfuncar gloss black trunk spoiler mx5 and should come up. Happy with it. Shipping from China took 2 weeks but think it was in Evri up north for 10 days of that on the tracker.
Very happy with it. There are UK sellers but I was in no rush for it.
Not done to mine, but fitted the original plates on to my mates 25th Anniversary Edition after it passed its MoT as he’s putting it up for sale. After the Launch Edition, I do think the 25th is something special and his has a Stage 1 Skuzzle kit fitted which has the power raised to 160bhp at the rear wheels. If I wasn’t so wedded to my LE, I’d be sorely tempted.
very tidy nice ride…!
If you’ve got a sports cat you need to get it really hot before they test it, mines passed with a non catted manifold.
Finished the front coilover and drop link install. Just nudged the ramps on the way back down but have ordered some of those lower rise ramps for next time. I rested the wheels on the slope of the orange ramps, which allowed me to get my jack under and the stands back in and out.
I’d soaked the lower wishbone bolts in Plusgas each of the last few nights but apart from the underside nut, I got nothing moving from the vertical bolt or the horizontal nut or bolt. It’s amazing how little grief the rest of the front suspension bolts gave me. Naturally, the drop links had to be cut off with a grinder but that’s not an issue. The shock bolt and upper arm bolts all came out with no trouble at all - new ones in now.
Spotted the sleeve has separated from the bushing arm on the front right too. Or at least that’s what it looks like to me.
I found getting the drop links torqued up correctly to be a pain but, again, got there in the end. New Ultra Racing strut brace coming this week from a fellow member so will fit that and then tackle the rounded lower caliper carrier bolt again.
This’ll be the last update for a while - it’ll go into the garage next week to sort the arms, alignment and coilover adjustment. I also have a wheel refurb and new tyres on the cards, along with making a start on the paint correction and sealant. Looking forward to some top-down smiles soon!
I did a 20 mile fast run before the test. My MOT man , Sid, is used to performance cars coming in with ‘silly sports cats’ as he calls them. We spent 25 mins at 2500 revs trying to get the high idle levels down. It was 1090 , if I remember, we needed 1030 at the highest pass level. The previous MOT , the garage that serviced it for the dealer we bought it from gave up trying to reduce it including replacing the lambda sensor. They then seem to have sent it to a tuning shop , a distance away and passed at 1030. We have the full BBR system on the car inc the cat underneath the floor. I take some solace to the fact Sid obviously carried on with the rest of the test and was a clean sheet, even commenting on how mint underneath it was with my subframe painting and general underside condition.
Bit of a frustration and will see what BBR say tomorrow.
The cat cools quite quickly so if there is a delay it won’t pass. You need to get the temperature back up by revving it at 4k for a few minutes
I dont think it helped being minus 1 when I was out in the car too…
I like that car a lot!
That looks really smart
Loving the black and red theme
Back to my emission issues, after speaking to BBR this morning. They could get my car through the MOT , but needed to get it 60 miles up the road. I suspect the rev the nuts off it for a morning, quick test and bingo. Problem being that the car has no MOT now as its cancelled on a major fail. I could say that I had an MOT booked with BBR if anything happened, but seems more faff than I want on an annual basis. So, I bit the bullet…
I removed the manifold from the car in 15 minutes today . The only obstruction was the lambda sensor, which when I found my 22mm spanner and held the manifold up one handed to unscrew it, it came out nice and easy. Delivery tomorrow is good for the replacement.
Popped to Sids on the way home and retest is Saturday, as the wifes car is being MOT’d then . They always seem to clump together, MOT’s.
got the new Blizzard wheels on. all-in with the heavier rubber its 2.5kg lighter per corner. a nice round 10kg of unsprung weight saved (215/45/17 F1 Eagle Asym 6)
i had been running on those snow tyres for too long - nearly crashed the car 4 separate times in the first 15 miles of twistys, just due to muscle memory its so quick and accurate that i kept turning too soon into a bend and nearly hitting the inside kerbs.
after doing enough miles to scrub the wax off i begun to take some faster corners… i think these are going to be a big hit! this is my final(??) suspension mod now. much stiffer chassis and the difference from stock is huge.
will get the writeup done after a couple of tanks (and trackday next monday)
Seems really unfair that a tiny emissions problem can cause so much hassle, when anyone can ride around on a 70s two stroke motorbike with impunity.
Looking very nice !!!
The wheels look great. I swapped to the same tyres as you after a track day last month finished a couple of my PS4s off. The ride feels much more compliant for a little more sidewall and no XL reinforcement.
New and old
Now fitted and done for MOT. Wasn’t as awkward as the bulky cat looked. Lambda a fiddle and may cable tie it to somewhere now
Working under the arches, and on the brake calipers…pictures to follow once completed
