What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Just booked 4 Goodyear Assym 6 from National tyres for fitting Monday.
They have the 20% off premium tyres at the moment.
Can’t wait

bosch 68mm. plug and play
(fab9)

if youve got gramms 70 on your radar for the ND, have a search around first. all i found were examples of issues, non compliance with ecu, and install issues. (ND specific).

I fitted the Fab9 Bosch 68mm throttle body back in Oct. Throttle response is improved and there is a small increase in power. Easy kit to fit but used a paper gasket to go between the adapter and the throttle body rather than use the supplied rtv. Going to Performance Link in Apr for a tune.

Why?
not in a negative way.
what went wrong with the old one or what didnt you like that fuelled the purchase of another?

Parcel day today! another via BOFI

the paco full audio upgrade (for the bose system).
new front speakers, mounting plates, sound deadening, crossovers, tweaters.

bit of a DIY jobby. might get the doors done this week before tackling the soldering and splicing of the new crossovers + tweeters.

The other one was great, just that I was never going to get round to doing everything I wanted to do to it. So i thought, ‘get yourself a new Homura and have all the work done beforehand’. Lowered, skirted, smoked reflectors, smoked side indicators, full alcantara interior, sports exhaust and a few other ‘nice to haves’.

White is the new blue.

Fitted front cameras to help me see around corners :stuck_out_tongue:. The driveway where I stay has awful visibility and a lot of pedestrian traffic, and my whole bonnet would be across the footway before I could see anyone. These cameras now give me a 180 degree view before my nose even sticks out. The view is displayed on an LED mirror which you can either strap to your existing one or, as I did, replace it completely. The mirror works fine as a mirror, and is able to display the view from one, two or four connected cameras at the same time.

Door speakers and sound dedening.

4 impportant lessons learnt today:
1 - dont ‘just’ upgrade the door speakers. as they start to sing the oem tweaters shriek! (i have cross over and tweaters, just havent got them done on the same session. so had a chance to experience the door upgrade)
2 - the bose amp sends the same signal to the tweaters and the door speakers! :expressionless: theres no additional in-line filter, theres just a splice halfway down the door loom. found that odd, especially as theres a bloody amp!!
3 - the re-cut sound deadening was not worth it. in that, i had to cut it into 4 smaller peices anyway. too big and fiddly to get it on and didnt line up right. (got a vid on this). just buy your own.
4 - buy spare door poppers! luckily i did. got through 5 in total. but i have now realised ive slightly mis-hung a door, so its got to come off again. having the sare poppers is well worth it.

*my laptop has a broken ‘p’. so many tyos on this screen. too much effort to fix lol

Changed engine, gearbox and differential oils this last weekend. While changing the engine oil I found that when removing the oil filter using a cut down water bottle around it stopped oil going everywhere. Also good practice to fill up the oil filter before fitting it ( it will require several top-ups ) and only hand tightened it.
To fill the gearbox and differential I use an inexpensive pump which works really well.

Changed the front wheels to the rear to even up tyre wear as fronts had 6.5mm and rears 5.0mm tread depth. I think they are 7500 miles old and not a make I would choose. I would want to change all at once as I believe in all four tyres being the same.

no pictures to share, its all covered up.
But comleted the Paco full-audio upgrade (tweeters, crossovers, door seakers, sound eadening) on the bose system.
gave it a quick ‘test’ in the garage. souds good. gets to volumes where now the sub sounds awful  guess whats next…

will give it a proper try tomorrow.

MOT all done. Wasn’t straightforward again, but it blipped below the 1.030 so Sid grabbed it and we are done. Said it might be the new cat needed more miles to sort itself out as we were singing at 3500 rpm to get it done.
Wife’s car sailed through and he said ’ see how easy it should be ’ :joy:.
Anyway a quick spin out and it’s nowhere near as vocal with the catted manifold. May noise up a little when we head to the NC500 next month. A good 1800 mile spin out should sort it.
Anyway a photo in the sun is always welcome.
