But did they work?
No idea, car is parked up in the garage. If the weather is good tomorrow, Iāll go for a short drive.
Had mine done there 4 and a bit years ago. They were not the best condition when I bought them but they cleaned up pretty well. Service was great, value for money and plenty of choice in finish. Hopefully the roads around there have improved since. Before and after pics attached.
As per my post last week, I also fitted Skidnation Delrin door bushes plus a new drivers side window seal to my NC1. I can say that the window seal has completely cured the rattle when the door glass was fully raised. As far as the bushes go (300 miles since fitting last week), there is definitely less noise when going over rough tarmac which suggests the door bushes are doing something - a more pleasant drive overall.
Iāll look into the window seal in case itās that, which is quite possible.
I had a rattling from the drivers door, when the hood was down, window up. This was on both my NCās Iāve owned. Well with wear and tear particularly the drivers door and a tendency to shove on the glass when closing the causes this looseness in the rubber seal. As mentioned itās the weather strip across the door top, it can be renewed as the part that the glass slides on goes flat, hence the rattle.
On both of mine I fed some flexible curtain wire down the rubber seal to bulk it out, itās hollow in the centre, no more rattle.
My windows donāt rattle, yet. But i notice that the weatherstrip inside has gone a bit bare and hard which has left some light scratches up and down the glass. Itāll annoy me enough in the end that ill have to replace the trims and the glass!
Early 06:15 start yesterday to travel the 60 miles to City Wheels in Birmingham for 8am for a same-day wheel refurb and powder coat.
I spent a day looking around the city; the museums, the Bullring, the markets and the Grand Union canal. It was the first time Iād been to the centre and itās a fascinating place. Iād thoroughly recommend Dishoom restaurant which bases its menu on Bombay street food. Delicious! Amazing dĆ©cor too.
Arrived back at City Wheels just after 4pm to find Zippy had what looked like a brand new set of dark gunmetal grey alloys; absolutely brilliant and no sign of the edge scrapes on a couple of the rims. Couldnāt fault the work. Then another 60 miles back home.
Iād had a couple of quotes from local (Cheltenham) companies but all much more expensive and none did a same-day service. Total cost to me . . . 240 quid (+fuel).
Now I need to sort out those scrutty wheelnuts.
Also a few days ago I designed and 3D printed a pen holder for the glove box and little name plate for Zippy.
Next big thing in a couple of weeks is de-rust and Dinitrol cavity treatment and undersealing (5 day process) at Rustshield Pros in Cheltenham. Iāll let you all know how it goes.
Just to balance out all the good stuff, my boot has recently sprung a leak so Iāll be going through the aquatic ingress isolation procedures.
I sprayed the stock wheel centre caps some time ago. I carefully removed the silver Mazda logo then a few coats of black Plasticote, finishing with several coats of Plasticote lacquer.
Rather than paint the brake callipers I recently gave them a going over with Rustins rust converter from Toolstation. They looked a but scrappy before but the converter gives them a nice dark metallic sheen.
Very nice work on the wheels. Excellent price too.
This could be worth a trip up to Brum indeed.
Please let us know how the dinitrol service goes, Iām in the same part of the world & have been considering getting my NC3sā undercarriage treated.
Clean pass on the MOT and my first MOT since buying the car last year. Just ticked over 70,000 miles so fitted a new Gates tensioner and belt along with an SKF idler pulley.
Shopping for some chunkier anti roll bars now and possibly a pair of bump steer correction outer tie rods.
Pic from one of my trips down south this summer, this one taken at Wolverley C&C site:
And another from Simply Japanese at Beaulieu:
I was looking at the Cybul ones that Bofi do, at near enough twice the price ![]()
Iāve just put a few things in the boot and cleaned the windows again, whipped it back in the garage sharpish, a torrent of rain for around 5 mins. I did the main washing yesterday between showersš
I was wanting to wash the soft top as there was some residue dust from the wheel place that wasnāt expecting. The car was covered in glitter
. I would have added another coat of water proofing too. Looking at the weather , ill have to wait until it clears up or donitnin the garage with limited to get around the sides.
I checked my tyre pressures⦠fronts fine, d/s rear was down to 14psi from 29psi last month and the p/s rear was down to 20psi from the same 29psi⦠i wonder why its dropped so low.
I think Iāll be keeping a hawks eye on the tyre pressures from now on
One possible cause may be corrosion on the inside rim of the alloys where the tyres seat. It might be worth taking it to a decent tyre place and asking them to demount the tyres, thoroughly clean up the inside of the rims, and whack them back together with some bead sealant. It doesnāt cost much or take long, and based on the conversation at my usual garage when I had a similar problem with my last āsensibleā car, they see it quite frequently.
Iāll be fitting this tomorrow

AFTER doing a pressure check, also check the valve is not leaking.
A bit of saliva on a finger-tip to make a film over the valve opening is an excellent indicator of any leak because of loose valve or poor seating after being disturbed.
