What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Fitted a Pioneer ND-BC9 reverse camera to the DA77 head unit I fitted last year. Wiring run alongside existing boot lid wiring, out through the grommet, cable tied to the conduit and then back through the grommet again. Had previously swapped the powered aerial so chased the wiring the same way, down the right side of the boot and out behind the drivers seat then into the middle and tucked in under the centre console. Removed the centre and right boot plastics, then the scuff plate and the poppers on the door side - didn’t remove that back panel completely as the “access cover” provides access once the wires are through. Used the ground at the back of the console and then the wiring loom from the head unit and Connects2 adapter made connecting the power and video straightforward. Tesa taped all the wires and cable tied to existing wiring to make it all tidy. Head unit loom had reverse input signal wire already so it was yellow RCA video cable of camera to brown RCA on loom then red power to reverse input signal (purple/white) and reverse 12v (light green on the Connects2 adapter). If you wire red power to red power, then you’ll have camera on all the time with handbrake off. Wire the power to both reverse 12v and reverse input signal for reverse camera only.

Camera is mounted to the standard “blank” plate on the boot lid. Notch cut out to feed wire internally then black sealant on the small holes left. Adjusted the lines and reversed the image on the head unit afterwards…

Booked it in to have the fuel line fixed re the ND recall notice.

Can’t post on that particular thread as it’s been closed…..

But, anyone still waiting to hear about when they should take theirs in for the work to be done, well don’t wait contact your dealer. My local dealer has booked me in, I had to initiate contact because the letter sent to me, as someone else pointed out, is a little confusing as to who will make contact next, the dealer certainly didn’t know to.

Not “confusing” Mick. Mazda UK’s recall letter is simply badly and incorrectly written.

I explained to them about the letter, how did they know about my car, they didn’t until I gave them the reg number., I’m not on their systems. Anyways Beechwood Mazda, Derby very efficient, seems they’ve got the parts the fix will be done in less than two weeks :+1:

Plinth delete
Installed full Zunsport
Front and rear plate holders
Changed to my reg and notified insurance
Brand new plates.
Docked the tail
(Found an old 1990 Motorola walkie-talkie ariel in a draw)

Haha, also fitted a stubby aerial to the NC , the Moss version, yesterday. The original was perished and a proper mess - 20 years young this year!

Nice one.

A known issue, poor qualitycards.

Best to clone it onto a Sandisk card….. useful to have in the event of poor mobile Carplay/AA reception.

And you’ll get Live Traffic Data (via FM) if you drive in Europe.

The annual trip to Vincent’s Motor Works and one Malian UEL header installed with a remap later.

I bet you won’t guess the power output…

No really, you won’t!

174bhp

What was the dyno number, before any work was done?

I’d go for a 15-20 bhp increase.

152bhp pre-work

Impressive!

So a 40bhp increase… and the previous 152 run was done on the same dyno, under the same conditions etc?

Yep. I was going be OK if I lost power with that manifold as well…

Was a bit dumbfounded when I picked her up and they told me.

Had great fun on the way home!
