Technically yesterday, but fifth year service complete, plus new discs and pads all round. Gearbox oil change has made it feel so much slicker! Can’t wait for the sun to come back now ![]()
Fitted some Archaic rear lights..
Depending on what you research it indicates NC2 onwards.. although some threads also say it’ll fit a NC1.. pleased to say it does fit my NC1..
It has a very cool start up sequence which I captured on video, can’t share on here.. (unless I upload to YouTube etc)
Appreciate it’s not for everyone but I love them and the bright LED’s have massively lifted Its road presence..
JapFest here we come..!!!
(Yep.. I really am doing stuff already…
)
Nobody but me and now you will even notice that I was out in the rain adding push rivets instead of bolts to the valance and applying a go-faster Jinba Ittai sticker because I decided the MX-5 had to have it written somewhere on it.
Which gearbox oil was used?
The weather finally gave me a chance to install my new HU, bonus pics of the gear stick and handbrake boots (got them from here if anyone is interested in swapping theirs). The HU install was easier than I expected, removing the center console takes maybe 5 minutes and the previous owner had already removed the dreaded 10mm bolt!
Very pleased with the result, the new HU makes the car more modern and comfortable, it’s great not having to faff around with the external display, usb and aux cables anymore. I was even able to find a replacement for the AUX connector socket that also has a USB port!
Also a nice surprise was that the sound quality improved quite a bit, which I wasn’t expecting to be that noticeable just with the HU. I have a BOSE system and my initial plans was to eventually replace everything, but now I’m leaning towards keeping it as it is and adding a subwoofer at some point. It won’t win any contests, but it’s decent enough for this type of car.
Where did you get the USB and aux connection?
Amazon , there are different versions, each “module” has it’s own cable: male aux and male usb
Saw it when I zoomed on the lights in the first post and was also jealous of the cosy workspace.
Yep… ramps & heating… ![]()
I had snow melting in the cold rain and dripping on the part I was working on while sat on some old bubble wrap.
You win… no seriously… you do… respect…!!
OK OK i’m jealous too! ![]()
In all my days I’ve never heard it referred to as that.
Large plastic envelope stuffed with old bubble wrap, when used put it in recycling make a new one. Perhaps I should paint it red and patent it!
This one came with instructions.
Red Dwarf already did that and called it the Tension Sheet….for stress relief. ![]()
Fifth year service today with a MOT

I had a video taken of the underside while she was up in the air.
Still looking good

Fitted my rear coilovers ![]()
A first engine oil change for me with this car, it was all serviced up last year when I bought it. Changed the diff oil too, that and the gear oil were done 2023, probably 5-6k miles done since. Gear oil next, for another day.
Made some helper ramps, recycled and strengthened some wooden shelves I had in the garage. Perfect as the metal ramps don’t skid around now as the tyres try to grip the first rung.
This pump worked very well to get oil in the diff, should be a breeze when I put oil in the gearbox.
