What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

New cheapie radio, trial fitted into a late Mk1 tombstone, which I want to fit into the S-Spec, if I can figure out how to keep the toggle switchs AND the Mazda oddments cubby. The late tombstone is properly cut for single DIN radios, for flush fitment (though this one has achunky fixed bezel)

Presently an early tombstone fitted, so protruding headunit. My Switch panel needs redoing. The old Pioneer DEH-P77 is looking a bit old; the CDs don’t always eject, the bezel keeps falling off, and the display glass is looking crazed.

Just because! Haha

Just because too! Never had this type of thing before but saw these on Amazon, three pair for less than a tenner! :joy:

Haven’t gone full ‘add on’ yet though, not got the seat infill pieces

Nice match for the seats. Are the other pairs the same or did you get a different pattern for variety?

Morning :+1: TBH, they just popped up when I was looking for something on Amazon (as stuff does) and not seen black quilted with red stitch before so bought them as a set of six individual items although it’s the same as three pairs :grinning: all the same style :+1: As said I’ve never had such an accessory before and it was only the ‘similar’ look that made me buy them! For £9.99 delivered it was an inexpensive impulse buy (unlike some of the purchases I’ve made! :joy:)

Had Tahir The Trimmer (07836576185) come to my home to renovate my inner trims and cracked seats. He covers the Thames Valley and has done work for my former employers. Before & after pics. Top bloke

Loaded her up with the bits needed to get her repaired and took her to the welder.
A sill and a wing to see the king…?

He’s giving it a thorough looking over during the next few days and will give me a proper quote shortly. Chassis rails, as well. :persevere::pound::credit_card::moneybag:

It’s not going to be cheap, but selling my commuting car is giving me the budget, so I think I’m about right. He put his finger in the wind and suggested some likely numbers which sum to the total value of the car I’m selling but it’ll be so good to have those jobs crossed off. That’ll be both sides done, then, and I can start spending money on things like the wheels and stereo and suspension which are waaaay down the list at the moment! Always seems odd to see people spend money on a rotbox, only to have to part it all out again, when it fails its next MOT!

Hoping the quote doesn’t end up being lots more than we discussed. May have to flutter my eyelashes at the good lady wife and work out where we find the money among the family budget… :grimacing::pleading_face:

Fortunately, she rather likes the little car, so it’s not all stacked against me! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

A little pre match fettling, well dismantling.

Parts ordered awaiting arrival early next week. Gave me chance to do a clean up and a little surface rust treatment under the battery box.:+1:

Surprising Mick, when you do take battery box off, how bad they are underneath :grimacing: well worth treating whilst it’s in bits :+1:

Fitted the reversing camera from MX-5 parts in my ND. Not working.
I’ve tried disconnecting the battery and leaving it a while and doing the hard reset described in forums, tried driving it a bit and hard resetting.
Taken out the SD card, usb stick and phone charger lead, let it rest, hard reset. Still doesn’t work.
Emailed MX-5 parts to see if they have an idea.
Any one else had this?

When I fitted mine it was recommended to test the camera while the dash and trim were still out.
First I would disconnect and reconnect each plug in turn and check if it solves the issue. Other than that it must be a faulty unit/camera as it is all ‘plug and play’.
One last thing and please do not take offence but you do have the ignition on and reverse gear selected? I will get my coat, sorry!
Do let us know how this is resolved, thank you.

Turn on ignition, don’t need to start the car. Wait until the head unit comes on to the home screen. Then hold down Back arrow, Mute and Nav together on the centre console. Hold them down for around 10 seconds until the screen goes blank and the MZD will reboot. When you are back at the home screen try selecting reverse. If it doesn’t work try the same procedure again. If it doesn’t work after three attempts you probably have a faulty kit.

Malc is correct about the instructions for the kits I produced. I suggested connecting the camera as soon as the adapter and MZD were connected and testing. Far easier to disconnect a faulty kit when you are around 25% into installation.

Top job by Tahir the Trimmer :+1:

Fitted the ieGeek radio, and made a new switch panel. I wanted a plain looking radio, and this seemed to be it for a cheap price.

I opted to reinstate the '96 JDM tombstone; this radio has quite a chunky bezel, and would have stuck out more with my cut down early type tombstone. Still needs finishing off; whether tocut this tombstone down (its a rare part) or fit something like the Jass console delete cap, or just go back to a boring centre console.

Yep. I did it before I put everything back but then I needed the car to be ready for use so completed the install. I could swap it out real quick now and will see if my-5 parts will send me another so I can swap and send back the stuff that doesn’t work.
Cheers. It’s settled me knowing I was doing the right things.
