Thanks Malc, they’re the details I followed lifted straight from Bofi
So then all that white stuff is not from a bombardment by giant seagulls?
I’m actually not that far from the river front but I’m happy to think the flying $h1t machines must have been wasted after the mini heatwave that commenced yesterday…
Bought 4 new tyres - Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Very pleased so far!
Great choice Andy,I wouldn’t use anything else,on my second set
Have you come from the Bridgestone S001’s?
I’m going to try PS4’s, as I’ve had them on other cars and they appear to have more give in the sidewall so offer a better ride but are still excellent wet or dry. Any thoughts?
I bought the car new in 2012 (2.0 Sport) & it was fitted with Bridgestone Potenzas from the factory.
Was happy with those, replaced after 5 years & 25,000 miles with a set of Michelin Primacy 3s after a lot of searching for recommendations on various MX-5 forums. Those gave a markedly better ride & increased fuel economy but I was never completely happy with the roadholding - a bit floaty on the bends.
After 4 years & 15,000 miles I decided to swap for PS4s even though the Primacy 3s were only just over half worn. Already impressed, yes the ride’s a bit harder (although still better than the original Bridgestone Potenzas) but the grip’s markedly better; the Primacy 3s used to almost drift around bends whereas on the PS4s on the same bends the car feels like it’s on rails
Looks like good snow foam. I have tried a few brands but always seem to run off of the car too quickly, even with trying different lance adjustments.
I cleaned mine today, quite a bad pic but a nice glare from the sun highlighting the copper red metallic.
After about 5(!) months waiting for MX5parts to get the IL motorsport 4-1 headers I gave up, they said sometime in August might be possible, so spoke to IL motorsport direct and within 5 days this had arrived.
Give it a bit of protection against the elements and hoping MOT tester will not really notice it vs bright shiny stainless pipe, long shot but they might be able to ignore it.
I took her on a photo shoot this evening after a snow foam extravaganza last night, and she did me proud strutting her stuff…
Up at 5.30am, out by 5.45. 100 mile drive to pick up 24 granite blocks to complete our garden wall. Quick pit stop for essential need then 100 miles home. Back home by 10.30am. Car safely tucked up in the garage having a snooze😀
Blimey.
Bet the 5 looked a bit “lowered”.
Nah, they were only a couple of kg each so maybe 50kg in the boot. No problem
Recently had battery problems wouldn’t hold a charge, had it on the conditioner charger but ended up trying to charge a 6v standard battery? Kept flashing alternate green/red and wildly fluctuating voltages.
Anyway, this morning started searching for a replacement for the aftermarket Bosch that was on when I bought the car.
ECP showed a Lion 3yr guarantee, 330 cranking and 45A etc. Reviews were poor, relating to small terminals? Not having anything to compare, I didn’t know which mine were rang and asked, they suggested I bring mine in and compare? Their website said it was correct for my car (code 156).
Fortunately, ECP have a branch less than a mile away, so battery off and 10 minutes later I was at the counter
Turns out I needed a code 158 instead, same battery but big terminals! Guess what? Almost £10 dearer Anyway, bought and happy to say, perfect fit! Battery had 12.7v in it and measured 13.7v when fitted (on tickover) so hoping that’s that and problem solved. However, I ‘thought’ that output from alternator to battery was more like 14+volts? Anyone know in case it’s the alternator that’s an issue too?
TIA
Barrie
Hi Barrie
Voltage on a new fully charged battery sounds OK at 13.7 at idle, however it is the amps which tell the full story. I would expect 14.7 only at higher revs and when a high draw like heated rear window is used.
If you are going to the next Bunch of Fives meet, I can bring along my amp clamp and check current for you.
As an aside I have fitted exactly the same battery 6 months ago and its been fine. Strangely enough the cars idle has been rock solid since so a Billy Bonus.
Kevin
Wow! Great stuff Kevin I’ll be there for a health check

Hopefully off to a show next weekend if things work out.
Wash and dry (sound like an hairdresser ) paint touch up (more stone chips:-1:) and more engine bay detail.
A good deal more to do in there though.
Very warm now so inside for an ice cream.
A few weeks ago I changed the gearbox and diff oil on my 2004 SVT Sport. I think you probably already know what’s coming…
One tab was on the drain plug but the others came out after a root around with a magnetic wand. Car drove ok but I didn’t want to risk another tab breaking off and doing any more serious damage (although it was probably down to previous MOT tests on the rolling brake tester). So, I bought a used 3.6 Torsen and it was fitted today. A hot day for wrestling a diff out but it went ok (largely because a proper mechanic did the wrestling!) although I did change the ARB bushes front and rear whilst it was on the ramp.
Anyone want to buy a Fuji diff with half the tabs missing?..

This really shouldn’t count but… I actually drove it! My poor neglected NA has been driven once in the last couple of months (purely to take it to the garage for some work) so having been green with envy Tuesday night driving back from the supermarket and seeing everyone out in / on their toys I did a 30 mile loop of the local country roads last night.
With the scorching heat of the day gone and a beautiful sunset to finish the drive off it instantly reminded me why I own it! Also nice to properly drive it since the wheel alignment was done. It feels quite lively now, turn in is way more direct, almost unnervingly so at first!
