It sure is, I can’t comment on how valid that is, as said I thought they look good and came as part of the deal. I will report back at how this performs as a package when I can
Hi Kevin, yes, very helpful looks a quality product! Thank you
Barrie
Glass wind blocker tell me more!
I tried to have one made but the holes kept breaking.
The Mazda OEM scratches so easily.
Speak to Roadie on here he does them
Not glass though
An NC I guess, sorry to see this?
I buzzed all mine back to bare metal in that area and treated with Bilt Hamber epoxy mastic, glad to say just surface stuff. They miss areas in there, no protection at all then put the wheel arch liner over it.
I would think Perspex better than glass?
This seems very well made , the base is cast metal and fits perfectly in the recess of the OEM part , the glass is toughened and TUV approved
Link here The optimum for your Mazda MX5 MC
Mine is Perspex and c***.
I have seen the acrylic ones, but for me are rather low.
Acrylic seems to be the better more robust material apart from glass of course.
Yea NC1. Has bubbling on the arch so I was kind of expecting this. Getting undersealed next month but they have some welding to do beforehand
Finally got time to drill holes and some spaces to stick the race seat on rails and into the car ready for Chadwell in September
No modifications needed they said.
Easy fit they said.
Glad it’s done.
Much lighter but more scratch prone
Perspex is a branded acrylic sheet. All Perspex is acrylic.
Polycarbonate is also used in some wind blockers.
Polycarbonate is tougher and is used to make bulletproof screens but acrylic is less prone to scratching. Minor scratches on acrylic can be polished out with T-Cut and polish without leaving any fogging or marks on the surface. Solvent based cleaners shouldn’t be used but normal cleaning with water and detergent is fine. Autoglym fast glass is also safe for use on acrylic.
Any thoughts on a version of those hoop inserts?
Perhaps tinted Perspex??
Yep, always thought that a “filler” there would be a great way of mounting a rear facing camera
It is something I’ve thought about but for the vast majority of people a wind blocker between the hoops is enough.
The standard blocker or any of the others on the market including mine does the job well. Increasing the height doesn’t increase the wind blocking significantly. Seats positioned fairly well back against the hoops stops the vast majority of wind in that area. It’s only those people of smaller stature that have the seat well forward that would benefit from hoop inserts. How many people complain about the MX-5 being too roomy!
While my wife is fairly short she still prefers the passenger seat well back. However when we recently went away on holiday and performed the MX-5 Tetris game of packing the space behind the seat was used for extra storage resulting in the seat being moved forward by around three inches. This did give extra turbulence from this area.
While it wouldn’t be too difficult to do I don’t think the market would be very big for them. A multitude of suppliers of wind blockers but still room for me in the market to sell in reasonable quantities. If there was a big market for hoop inserts there would be plenty of people doing them already.
Just a quick mock up of hoop inserts ignore the brown trim along the bottom it’s what I had lying around!
Made a card template but used a surplus hoop cover I had in the garage. Didn’t allow for the fact that the hoops sit up off the main base trim panel, so I made this a bit short, hence the trim!
Anyway, had a couple of speakers grills from when I fitted the Alpine door speakers so cut one up to see.
Now I know it’s not too difficult to do, might buy some perforated aluminium sheet and do it right! Still leaves a wind blocker though
Might be a bit neater next time too!

Love it !
Looks really good👍
I was wondering more about blocking sound from the pesky drain tubes/ road noise ducts than windblocking.
Aesthetics too of course.
That’s why I thought about tinted Perspex.
If it can be demonstrated that some kind of insert could reduce the road noise and look good as well, I’m sure there could be a big market for them.
12 db is a huge amount, have to say I’m sceptical on thst.
