What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

How Lovely they look … I personally like oxblood Coloured seats. I have black leather Can this guy change them to oxblood ? And approx how much ? Best regards from Ray Hill Epping Essex
Ps I once painted the interior of a car many years ago with proper Leather paint and it went on very well. Dried perfectly and never wore back to the original colour … It takes a lot of guts to do it But I got what I wanted …

I don’t think he’d be willing to to travel….located in Northern Ireland !! :vulcan_salute:

Got some more cleaning supplies in, gave the drivers inside half a good clean.

Tried out my trombone cleaner on the petrol water drain and worked brilliantly, managed to find the grills/drains behind the PHRT but struggled with accessibility (possible due to my chubby arms). With the weather intermittently spitting thought it best to come back to that another (dryer) day. Any advice would be welcome

Hi Dav__F Thanks for your clarification, Enjoy your lovely seats, I’m sure that they Have enriched your MX 5 Interior…

your MX5…

The only way you’ll get a trombone cleaner down there is to pop the grills out. Mine came out by getting two or three fingertips under the straight edge at the forward
edge of the grill and giving a firm tug.
They clip back in again quite nicely.

Thank you very much, although my main issue from the quick look will be getting my arm to the grates with “lid” open and roof up or is there a better position?

Today I just looked at my MX-5 through my newly fitted windows, and yup, he is still gorgeous.

I don’t recall having any great problem with thst.
Wait till you try adjusting the clutch pedal, thst really does require a contortionist…

I bought one of these to change the gearbox and diff on my wife’s SLK, what a great tool for re-filling. Not a tool you will use regularly but a god send when you do.

Oh dear me. Thanks for reply best regards from Ray Epping Essex

Fitted the lower centre cross brace on my ND from IL motorsport. Been waiting a few months for mx5parts to get it. Just need the front brace to come eventually.

Thoughts on it so far or not had a chance to try yet?
It is on my list of modifications to get

I probably won’t notice this and the next one I’ve ordered as much as the others as I’ve done the top braces front and rear and chucked bilsteins and eibach springs in recently but I thought I might as well do all of it. I could tell when the top front went in, two weeks later top rear brace really got the rear end tamed and less skittish. The lowering was the cream on the cake so this will probably not be as obvious.

Paul… Do you cut your own laser pieces ? Or do you buy them in ready cut ? I need five small pieces of the material that you use to make the roadie wind blockers. I am making a boot spoiler and need to have 5 under gaskets so that the boot lid is not scratched or damaged etc… Ray … I will pay the same money as one of the roadie windblockers and imagine that it will take the same amount of material as one wind blocker ! ! Best regards from Ray Hill !

Fitted a Carbon Fibre Radio Surround from CarbonMiata.

My only gripe about the product is that it’s not an exact copy of the part it replaces. The photo below shows the rear of the new part (left) and the old part. As you can see, the new part doesn’t have the four white fixing clips that would secure it to the dashboard. Instead, it relies on the triangular side pieces to hold it in place, meaning it doesn’t fit quite as flush to the dash as before. Secondly, there is no lip around the opening for the radio, meaning the radio isn’t secured, so mine can move side to side by 10mm or so.

For such an expensive item, I expected better, but overall I’m pleased with the end result.

It looks fab At first glance Maybe you are a bit critical because you are seeing it close up each time you get into your car. Sadly. Nothing is perfect these days … I liked the look as soon as I saw your pictures of the carbon look centre section and the full width dash panel !

Hi I’m not an expert on the ways that some MX5’s are having ridge chassis parts fitted or indeed why ! , Maybe it’s just me. But I don’t see or feel any lack of rigity when I’m out and about in my MX5 NC ! Is there really a noted difference and how does it relate in comparison to a MX5 not fitted with these parts ? Just curious, Ray Hill Epping Essex

Raymond, there is a gulf of difference between a relatively shaky Mk1, a supposed stiffer (apparently 26% stiffer) Mk2 and the MK3/Mk3.5 whose “tub”…was pretty much developed from the rotary RX8.
I don’t think the Mk4 was developed from anything other than a clean sheet of paper.

Fundamentally…once you get past the Mk2’s tubs owing parentage to the Mk1 tub, really every Mx5 after them owes nothing to any previous vehicle. Therefor, all the different marques will differ in rigidity traits & solutions…some of which to me over many years looked a bit snake oily.
I know removing the OEM turret brace from my 2002 Sport makes zero road difference, but it looks good I guess.
Equally, my Mk1 does feel less shoogly with it’s fitted, and it came with factory chassis braces.
Drove probably 3 or 4 Mk3’s over the years and all of them felt hewn from granite by comparison.

To borrow an old Colin Chapman saying…the only thing you ought to add to a 5 …is less weight.
Unless…for track & safety use.
