What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Wasn’t she the one who sat on the back of a motorbike ( amongst other things ) Naked ? A very inappropriate thing at the time
I’ve just read up on the story of her She wasn’t naked But she WAS naked under her leathers. Thus the caption “ girl naked on a motorbike “

I don’t remember that particular story but it would be no surprise, she was a wild child who got up to all sorts with the likes of Mick and Keith.
ßhe did a film called Girl on a Motorcycle
I’ve never seen it but in the stills I’ve seen, she was clad in leather rather than naked.

I seem to remember a ‘ still’ within some film Or other of the period where she was only clad in her birthday suit Which Understandably electrified the media of that time, But I could be wrong. It was a long time ago … Talking of the Rolling Stones. I once had the pleasure of meeting Ronny Woods when I drove him and Rod Stewart home to Epping… ( where Rod lived at the time ) I owned a chauffeur hire company at that time and liked to pick celebrities up myself as they were my business and had to be looked after etc. Rod got out and walked indoors whilst Ronny come around the car and shook my hand… A truly lovely guy … Me and Rod eventually fell out because he quite rightly wanted me to know every nook and cranny of London And I didn’t know every nook and cranny of London So I got him lost a few times. I knew it was the end. When I dropped him and Kelly off at Browns Hotel… He said “ goodby “ I retorted “ I thought you never said goodby Rod “” only say “farewell“ that Little quip from me made Kelly laugh. And they both walked off and into Browns Hotel. And I never saw them again. Just a little shared memory

That film ignited my interest in motorcycles, among other things…

I think Ronnie must have been brought up in the Uxbridge area.
I knew a lady from there who reckoned he used to spend more time at her house as a kid than he did at home.
Strangely, she used to make the mistake of saying he was in the Stones rather than the Faces, as he was at the time - mid 70s
How prophetic is that??

So… What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Gone well off topic now.

Quite right No more ‘off topic‘ from me …

Yes. Well off topic I agree. Too far off topic even’ But we are only using one tiny corner of a vast MX5 club media. To express our memories… But you are quite right. My Best regards Robbie…from Ray in Essex.

Lovely to see nice Early MX5’s carrying a bit of individualising and attention, they sometimes look more interesting than when factory basic,
I enjoy tinkering with my one ( the car I mean) It’s cheaper than driving it with petrol going through the roof…

HI Terry, My 1998 MK2 needs a new audio unit. Its got a broken CD player radio at the moment and the left hand speaker is intermittent.
Problem is I cant get it out to see whether its single or double din and Im note sure what to get but want a retro look. Any advice? steve

Oh dear, this only started off as a small hole. Best find myself a welder.

Oh dear…

Hi Steve,

I’m assuming It’s the original unit, in which case It’s double din. To remove it you need a couple of extraction tools like these, available from eBay or Amazon for a couple of pounds:

There is a thin piece of plastic trim each side of the unit that need to be eased off with a small flat-bladed screwdriver to reveal a row of holes into which you insert the extraction tools. There are lots of videos on you tube showing how do this:

I got a fascia and wiring adaptor as a kit from ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CT24MZ02-Car-Stereo-Radio-Fascia-Panel-Fitting-Kit-for-MAZDA-MX-5-2000-2005-/372268608938?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

And the Bluetooth radio:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-Vintage-Car-Radio-MP3-Player-Stereo-USB-Classic-Style-Car-Stereo-Audio-/203154607649?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

All up it was ridiculously cheap at around £30, but I see the prices have gone up (by 50% for the fascia!). Hope this helps.

Looks like a perfect Halloween Aggressive growling face, There is no doubt about it, Mazda have got that ND front looking perfect ! The first Mazda to shake off that ‘girly’ stigma of the Early Mazda’s (which they didn’t deserve) … The ND model look’s ‘ Mean ‘ ( above )… enjoy your lovely car,

I don’t think my NC looks too Girly Though… I get cars zooming up behind me to take a closer look …

A bit of rubbing, a good deal better but not perfect.

‘Peek’ metal polish is good too. A big tin lasts forever.

looks great Mick, how do they come off ?

Really easy, pull the whole plastic sill cover off (pull upwards from one end) it’s only clipped on.
From there you’ll see underneath 4 securing tangs and a central tang holding the metal finisher in. Just ease the 4 tangs away from the plastic and it should pull upwards that side and off.
There is some double sided sticky tape holding it down offering resistance too but pulling it upwards will break the seal.
You’ll see how it’s fixed once the whole thing is off.

Or, if you are worried about damaging it, Put the base and the top chrome motive plate in 4 inches of HOT water in a bath ( together) for a few minutes and the top plate ( chromed plate ) will come off easier, as the M3 Holding tape loses its grip etc,
Best regards from Ray in Essex…
ps, this method can also be used when you need to separate many other chrome parts from bodywork of most other cars too… By pouring hot ( not quite boiling ) water over the part you want to unstick ) do it several times in quick succession ! Badges, Chrome Trim etc , will come unstuck much easier. Another trick to remember is to first do the water trick as explained and then slide a bank card or any other card such as a AA or RAC card under the part you want to remove, These methods will help you especially if the part you need to shift is delicate or difficult to shift etc…Happy days
