Thanks, Mick, new job is on the list for the weekend now
It’s getting harder to find though
I bought a headlamp polishing kit from Aldi for the grand sum of a fiver.
I tested it straight away and it does work.
You get a tube of polish, a tube of sealant, a range of sandpaper, a sanding block and four polishing cloths.
I didn’t need sandpaper and went straight to the polishing compound.
It works pretty well but I found it worked better with some water as it got rather sticky without.
I kept polishing until the cloth wasn’t getting brown from oxidised plastic any more and then washed and dried the lights before applying the sealant.
The results are good and rhe price is amazing.
Thanks
Thanks chaps about the Peek metal polish, I’ll give it a go👍
It is with Steve Flowerdew (top tech with Eden Mazda) to have a new cam belt plus all fluids done today.
Hi, Is that number plate surround plastic or stainless? I’ve had a plastic one that looked great for a couple of months, then the plating discoloured. I’d like a metal one, but I’m not so keen on the ones with unequal borders - e.g thicker at the bottom. Yours looks spot on, can I ask where you got it?
I had one fitted to my previous car, they do similar at Mx5parts (currently out of stock though) Fix the plastic carrier plate, insert your number plate then clip the stainless steel surround plate over.
Hi, No, my one is a cheap plastic coated one cost £7 at a local car spares shop in Loughton Essex I haven’t a clue how it will wear it’s only been on about two months and still looks good though, It is treated with a coat of “ Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection “ each time I clean and wax my car with it, which is every fortnight … crazy eh !
The other guy with the red car ( either ‘below‘ or ‘above‘ my reply ) seems to have found a real beauty of a number plate surround , It looks Far more robust than mine… Take care and keep safe Best regards from Ray in Essex …
ps. Just read the ‘ other ‘Reply‘ from Mick AP, ( red car ) That one might be your best bet. It’s stainless steel ! Might get one myself when back in stock at MX5Parts … Ray. Ps, I think Halfords might do one very similar to my one …
I’ve got a Roadie too. Lovely little addition to the MX5 roadster, well pleased… as you can see I have placed a chrome strip along the leading edge Of the roadie and a SPORT motif along the bottom just to personalise it. The roadie doesn’t need personalising But It’s a bit of tinkering that I like doing…
Second front shock absorber done today on the mk1. All went very smoothly, no swearing today! Pretty sure they were the original units so nearly 30 years old and the bolts weren’t to bad to get undone.
Thought I would give the NB a clean up before putting it to bed for the winter, cleaning under the bonnet I found this.
Oh well, out with the welder.
I seem to have missed something here. Why is it important to shut and open the soft top roof as per instructions ? I just throw mine open. Sometimes I do it whilst going along The wind does the rest ! NOT good practice ?
I’m 80 for goodness sake I don’t read instructions, I just put an elastic band around my syrup and enjoy the wind Rushing through my wig … Only joking. I’ve got a full head of hair It’s about all that I’ve got that’s Not withered … Ray from Essex
At what speed do you put your roof down?
At No more than 120 miles an hour Andrew… the buffeting gets too fierce if I do it whilst going any faster …
Seriously though, ‘I open the roof at 20 to 30 mph maxImum’ It seems to go back smoothly with a gentle Wooosh and clonk. I only did it once or twice, … Thanks for your enquiry … My antics often made people in following cars chuckle, One minute they were following a roadster with the hood up and in a split second it’s an open top roadster … immediately Exposing a silly old git Munching a donut or whatever the matron put in my lunch bag … Bit dodgy when she once put a cuppa soup in my lunch bag… try steering a car with your knees at fifty mile an hour eating a cuppa soup in the wind Swirling around you on the outside lane of the M25. It’s Scary stuff …
Have to say I’ve never tried it on the move I do it slowly from outside the car, I wouldn’t want to risk roof frame getting bent or tuck straps tearing by doing it on the move.
Blimey I hadn’t thought of that… Your reply has made me think about my outrageous activity. I will now modify the procedure in order to preserve the integrity of the irons and straps etc, I wonder if I can reverse the procedure by going fast in reverse ?
Hi Stephen My names is Raymond, Nice to have made your acquaintance … If you enjoy a bit of “Superfluous Nonsense“ you have come to the right place, Look out for my name … There’s no charge for my nonsense And it’s a good nightcap too it will send you to sleep… Zzzzz
I also operate the roof whilst moving, particularly when it starts to rain when the roof is down and there isn’t anywhere to stop. I think the fastest I’ve been going at the time is 40mph and it was a struggle fighting against the wind!
