Hodnet Hall Gardens are always worth a visit, not open every day, but the plants and trees and lakes are spectacular. It was raining to begin with so only took the phone camera,
Here is my favourite pic from the day.
and the reverse angle, not so good with a washed-out sky, but it gives one an idea of how grand the place is
Dudmaston Hall is also a good spot for a walk among the vegetation, more trees and less gardens, being NT. The proper camera has a better dynamic range for exposure!
Covid means the house is shut, but the little museum is open.
Saw a very nice NC3.5 in the car park as well.
What have you bought? I have a 130mm standard reflector at the moment which I’ve had for a few years now and considering an upgrade.
I have had many many hobbies, some last 5 minutes others for years… Owning a telescope however, has not been one of them. After seen your picture though, that could change
It’s a fantastic hobby especially in the winter with them long nights.
I bought a Sky-Watcher 200p reflector last year and snapped this one of the moon with my phone held up to the eye piece.
Not expensive for this scope (circa £300) when compared to modding an Mx5.
Took this with 127 MAK with attached DSLR. Just added a Skywatcher Evostar 80ed pro refractor for pure Astro imaging. Started all this only last April and it’s addictive.
The 130 is ok but I was a little disappointed with the detail when it comes to the planets so looking to get something a little more poweful. I would have spent more at the time I bought it but the shop persuaded me against it, I should have stuck to my guns.
Anyway, nice shot of Tycho and Copernicus👍
One day coming back from John o’Groats, we stopped at this lovely castle, but I cannot remember the name. Can anyone help please?
Any clues? Roughly what part of Scotland? What road(s) were you using? Thanks.
Dunrobin castle
Did you get to see the falconry display, certain days/times they have it, very good.?
Dunrobin, yes, thank you.
The falconry display was quite something. I heard the sound of rushing wind, before a winged ‘fiend’ tried to give me a bigger bald patch. It came in so fast I could not react in time…
Many of the 1970s-built High Speed Trains (HSTs), have been withdrawn from service now, as more modern units have been introduced.
This one has been specially repainted to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the introduction of the Blue Pullman train in 1960, and is seen here near Frome on Saturday 29th May 2021.
