What have you Photographed lately?

Now that last comment has really confused me 'cos the only JS46 I know of is a John Deere mower, unless you were mowing the meadow at the time. :grinning:

Much later: I now realise that you said AVATAR, with the self portrait of a large (Canon) camera lens with you behind it. Age has its compensations they say, but I’ve never encountered any, only more and more problems!

Nice shots  I couldn’t really justify mirrorless as I don’t use my camera anywhere near enough these days - I went from full frame back to crop sensor as the weight of the kit was getting too heavy. The results do look good though!

Looks awesome! The first in particular is very pretty and the colours are really natural

Thanks, funny thing is I used my iPhone 6 to take it, I just pointed and shot, I didn’t even put my glasses on.

Some garden photos with the phone taken in this evening sunshine, reduced a bit to save bandwidth.

Malus Profusion with the sun at just the right angle

Golden Delicious I’ve propagated as a step-over espalier. From root and branch cuttings off my old tree that the grand-nephews said “It just fell over, honest.”

The prunus bark is fantastic, but no flowers for a few days yet

The little red acer tree is in flower

Sitting having a latte and cake under the crooked spire today. Thought it looked a good opportunity for a piccy.

A pointer to the future. It’s been said that the days of the “camera” as we know it are numbered as the quality of photo software and lens technology in smartphones improves dramatically. In fact I believe that one of the Japanese photo/optical companies have already ceased producing camera bodies.

They’re certainly getting a lot better. I can still tell the difference quite noticeably when enlarging or in low light photos, but I don’t think it’s gonna be long before the DSLRs become specialist.

That said, you can’t easily do this sort of thing with a phone (I do like playing with long exposures!):-

Here is the sun setting at Red Rocks in Hoylake last week. Hilbre Island is on the left. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thank you. Yes, the Canon with a couple of lenses gets a bit much. I’m really pleased I changed systems. Not a cheap exercise, but my Canon gear was very easy to sell. I really think DSLR bodies will be become rarer before too long. There is no real need for an optical viewfinder and a mirror mechanism and I had no difficulty moving to an electronic viewfinder. An articulating screen helped with the flower photos too. It’s difficult to fault the results from modern crop sensors and the Fuji lenses get great reviews. I almost went micro 4/3, like some of my friends, but that was a step too far. I enjoy photography and I’m at a stage where I want to enjoy my money, so it wasn’t a great problem to change cameras.

How is the mirrorless camera for fast-moving subjects with a long telephoto?

Fine, for a start there’s no loss of image as with a “flipping” mirror so I find it easier to keep “panning” with the subject.

Hoylake i’m thinking?

You are thinking correctly  never been to Holyoke :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

A wee mixture from Scotland… :sunglasses:

I’ve not had a chance on that yet (long telephoto is on the to buy list), but as Countryboy says, I’m expecting it to be fine. There are plenty of focussing options in the menus.
