What phone holder do you recommend

As the title suggests, what phone holder do members recommend? I don’t want something attached to the window stretching across the dash and I find the vent mounted holders can break the mechanism. Just curious what others have gone for :sunglasses:

I have always used BRODIT holders and pro clips for mounting phones.
The Active holders charge whilst holding the phone.
The pro clips are individual to each car to fasten the holder to.

I have one of these which is great if you have a MagSafe iPhone. It does connect to the vent BUT has an arm that then rests on the area below the vent and so takes most of the weight and doesn’t break the vent mechanism. Works great and looks discrete on my ND. I then run a wire to the power outlet in the passenger footwell so the phone charges when mounted.

I was recommended a VAOUGE Car Phone Holder Mount from Amazon. £13 and does the job perfectly

From a recommendation I saw on here somewhere (I think), I have an APPS2CAR magnetic mount stuck to the dashboard on my Mk1.

Got it off Amazon, which unhelpfully, now seems to be OOS link

I have Olixar manetic phone mounts, so goodI I bought another one for the other car.
They mount to the dashboard with a gel suction mount that can stick to the heavily textured dash of the nc

I bought a used Mk.1 eyeball vent to experimentally hack up and modify, and a generic wireless charger/holder from Amazon (the type which sense the phone is there and motors its arms in to grip it). Short USB power lead goes from that to a USB charger in the lighter socket.

With a bit of sawing and filing, the ball mount for the holder was neatly screwed to the front of the eyeball vent, and I could throw away most of the parts intended to clamp it to stuff. It replaces the right hand vent in the centre console and it’s really neat if I do say so myself.

Of course one reason I like the mod is it’s reversible - swapping it back to the original vent is the work of a moment.

For the ND, I consider this the best design.

That’s a very neat design, but I can’t quite see the point. It doesn’t appear to charge the phone, and you already have the car’s built in display. Pardon my ignorance of the ND, but can’t you put your phone’s navigation and entertainment apps onto that display with Carplay, Mirrorlink or Android Auto?

What am I missing?

Well… The OP asked what phone holder we recommend, so I replied!

I suppose you can use Apple Carplay, but I have personally never investigated it because I read that it has problems, and it will in any case still work if your phone is in this holder. I can plug the phone into the usb socket if it needs to be charged.

I actually have just installed a new head unit with Android Auto which I use, but didn’t want to just stick my phone in the centre console as the mobile signal would be reduced.

Thanks for all the replies - I do like the magnet ones, but the mags affect the wireless charging function of the phone. Might take a look at a Brodit with a pro clip maybe, but they’re not cheap lol.

Take a look at Mous if you’re happy to get a new case and proprietary magnetic mount. They don’t interfere with wireless charging as the magnets are in the case surrounds.

None!

I’ll have a USB cable connected to the stereo and the phone locked off on the screen or in the central console and it closed. Can still receive and make hands free calls and listen to music or audio books via the stereo and no prospect of “accidently” getting 6 points for touching or using it whilst driving!

Yes you’re right, I use Android auto and put the phone on the shelf in front of the gear stick.

I guess the OP has an earlier car.

I have an NC3.75 but do have wireless Android Auto - I would still like a phone holder rather than sticking it in the centre console or having it slide around on the surface

Personal choice, I prefer the phone out of the way so I’ve never used a phone holder.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I think I will probably get this:

It’s a vent grip, but only hooks on so hopefully won’t cause any damage, plus it has wireless charging as necessary.

The only thing I’d say about that one is why have wireless charging on it, you might as well just plug the phone in rather than the phone holder?

Simple answer? I prefer wireless charging to wired charging.

Is it not considerably slower??
