I have a wide bore (not just for engines!!! 
) Renaissance descant - rich tone, but you must control the breathing.
I think my descant must be at least 50 years old and belonged to my grandfather.
Great sound and the same finger positions as the saxophone, which it got me onto many years ago👍

This is wide bore, increasing to the foot, and you are right about the breathing; but I find it a positive feature that one can control pitch and loudness thereby much better than my other descant recorders.

Always a plus for when the temperature changes that much, you can go out of tune midway through a piece of music.
