With 20:20 hindsight we would all have bought them.
I second that!
Right guys we’ve got the band together and blagged a gig at the Dog and Duck on a Saturday night so we need a set list.
We’ve decided that the audience will just have to accept what we give 'em so each member pick 4 songs that you want to play and don’t worry if you choose one that someone else has already picked because it just means that definitely goes in the set.
Ok, here we go! Oh…and hopefully you can play them!!
Alright Now,
You aint seen Nothin Yet,
Boys are Back in Town,
Take it Easy.
GO!
Pick Up The Pieces - Average White Band
Let’s Stick Together - Roxy Music
Smooth - Santana
Still Got The Blues - Gary Moore
What might appear a very strange selection, but there is a hidden method in my madness…
Cruel Sea (as by John Kongas and the G-Men)
Driver’s Seat (as by Sniff 'n the Tears)
Black Magic Woman (as by Santana)
Gone, Gone, Gone (as by Robert Plant & Alison Kraus)
I could list a hundred more, all for equally strange but good reasons.
God bless all roadies, without whom any gig would be much more challenging and a lot less fun!
Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin
Get It On - T Rex
Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett
Need Your Love So Bad - Fleetwood Mac
Despite my ID on here I’ve never been a roadie. My first MX-5 was a '93 Eunos Roadster that had been given the name ‘Roadie the Roadster’ by the previous owner. Changing a pet’s name on adoption is never a good thing so that’s what I continued to call it.
On joining the forum and picking a user name it seemed obvious.
You can still be our roadie. You can unload and set all the gear up while we stand at the bar drinking like all real rockstars do
Loving the way this thread is going. Here’s my pick.
Walking by myself - Gary Moore
Lovely day -Bill Withers (When you are ready bass guy, we’ll come in)
Run to you - Bryan Adams
Don’t stop - Fleetwood Mac
If you want to hear a great cover band check out ‘Hindley Street Country Club (HSCC)’ on YouTube.
What with my back?
Let’s think, how many years have I been a roadie? Must be 1-2, 1-2, 1-2.
Okay, so these are ones myself and the Lieutenant General (wife, long story) have actually attempted to play badly .
Goo Goo Muck - The Cramps
Come As You Are - Nirvana
Don’t You Lie To Me - Gary Moore
Matchbox Blues - Tab Benoit
There are others but thought this might be a good mix.
Sorry not posted a pic of my much abused acoustic Morris, yet, but my ultimate four song set with extremely limited acoustic guitar skills and now sadly much reduced vocal ability might be something like :-
Urban Spaceman - Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band
Little Wing - Jimmy Jam Hendrix
To Be Alone With You - Trancendental Bobby Dylan
and to finish an uplifiting round of
Plastic Jesus - Mantanooska Thunderbuck (singalong with the f word version)
Exit stage left, lucky not to choke to death.
I’m gad to see the late great Gary Moore has a few mentions here already, he’s one of my most favourite guitar virtuosos.
His Blues for Greeny CD is magical, an essential part of any guitar enthusiasts collection, and I have the two-CD pack where it’s paired up with After Hours.
And of course these live with a whole lot of his other CDs, but all ripped to the PC so I can listen to any track at any time, such as now.
In this virtual reality Supergroup you just fit perfectly…bad backs disappear over night and your contribution is necessary.
Now go load my 4x12 cab in to the back of the van whilst I finish my pint…
I have just finished reading this. It’s a good insight into him.
Great picks and the audience is going to get a great set from the songs that others have suggested too.
Now like all major supergroups the groupies have to go thru the roadies so you may find that you become surrounded with females whilst we are on stage…just saying.
The best cover band on the planet is the Lexington Lab Band. The line up varies between different studio players but all world class. They cover every major band and the musicianship is stunning. Here’s a rocky one for you.
In case it’s of interest - Phil Harris demos the Peter Green / Gary Moore Les Paul (now owned Kirk Hammet).
I love this video and have watched it many times - as well as talking about the guitar (and it’s famous out-of-phase sound) Harris also talks about Gray and the times their paths crossed - they both had the same mamagement back in the day.
Peter Green always denied there was any magic in this guitar, claiming variously Les Paul guitars were jazz guitars and that he’d rather have his old Harmony Meteor back. Who am I to argue.
I’ve watched that may times too simply for the love of Peter Green.
I’ll never forget hearing Albatross on the Simon Dee TV show on the weekend it was released. It blew me away and it has ever since and I’ve played it in every band I have been in.
Thank you for posting…
I refinished my LP replica earlier this year and was going for a Greeny vibe…once it fades a bit it will get there
.
Great choices so far, a good number of which we used to play. Here’s a few more for The Dog & Duck
Hey Joe
Wishing Well
Gimme Some Lovin
Stormy Monday
Great choices!
This band rocks…we need a bigger venue.
