What's the best hat for roof down driving?

Now the sun’s arrived I’ve realised I could easily get burned when driving with the roof down. What’s the best hat you’ve found that solves this problem and doesn’t get blown off? :cowboy_hat_face:

No doubt about, it a baseball cap. The peak/visor keeps the sun out of your eyes when the sun is low in the sky and it will not fly off!

Baseball cap, the peak on it stops the sun’s glare in your eyes too. :+1:

I agree - I have one in my car, although I am trying not to use it, but it needs to be adjusted so fits snugly…and do not look up whilst driving as the wind could catch the visor and its goodbye hat…

You can get baseball caps with a neck flap as well to protect your neck from sunburn. I prefer baseball caps with a curved peak as it gives better sun glare protection.

I also have one of these which works well in the car

Keep some suncream in the glovebox, because your arms and neck need protection as well as your head. I only bother with a hat in winter where the brim isn’t an issue.

Good point on the sun screen; some of us have less natural head protection from the sun than others (e.g.hair) so need the extra protection :older_man:

Something like this… Protects the eyes and doesn’t fly off

Sadly, I don’t have a glove box! :sunglasses:

As above, baseball cap that just covers the sun screaming in above the windscreen

Yes, and some polarised aviator shades to cut out the dash-top reflections from the windscreen.

Also, as well as head, neck and arms, if you’re wearing shorts/short skirts watch out for badly burned thighs, cover up or use sun screens. :face_with_monocle:
PS: I mean REAL shorts, not these truncated trousers that end well below the knees.! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Neither do I, it’s just what I call the deep cubby between the seats. But therein lives the SPF30 and polarised shades. Don’t think I can “pull off” a baseball cap, ex-SWMBO forbid me from wearing one as I looked a bit of a yobbo, despite keeping one in the car

Come on everyone, we’re missing a sales opportunity here…

…“and there is a fine selection of baseball caps available right now in the Club Store”.

I keep mine in the box just over your left shoulder…

I wear a flat cap in summer and a beanie in winter.
If you need sunscreen, watch out for it staining your clothes, or buy one without the guilty ingredients.
Check this if you do get stains.

Oh, and don’t forget “you can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes”.

And some Jungle Formula Gel.
The link above is the roll-on. I’m not at all fond of the sprays. I still have a squeezy tube (much preferred) of actual gel bought from the chemist - but tube seems to be no longer available.

And some Anthisan, recommended for those of us who come up in lumps after a bite.

Jungle is decent stuff, you can’t beat DEET, but I don’t think I’ve ever been bitten in the car. Anthisan cream is already present as the car usually accompanies me hiking, so it is something of a rolling pharmacy, first aid station and wardrobe (it’s a wonder there’s any room left in the car)!

@Christophe1 actually I’ve noticed sunscream marking the faux leather panels in the interior (e.g. door cards) with greasy fingerprints, but that could be because I recently treated it with PERL. Thanks for the article link, interesting reading albeit the brands listed are all American
