Was there in August. The hotel des trois vallees has possibly the rudest and most unhelpful staff I have ever encountered- and for France that’s saying something.
And got caught in a thunder /hailstorm with hailstones the size of ice cubes . My unblemished mk1 now needs a bonnet ( about 15 dents) and around 10 other dents the size of a 10p attended to. And probably a respray.
Monthly BVAC breakfast meet at Newtown St Boswells in lovely weather with a wide variety of cars out for the day, then tea and cake in Etal (Northumberland).
Well having nailed it back together and having sorted the issues of my own making with the engine build in February ……I put it back in the shed.
Roll on 6 months and a mate struggling with mental health asked for an old fashioned crack of the sparrows blast…… well how could I refuse.
sailed through the MOT, and then got put back in the shed for 2 more weeks. Then with no real prep I drove it 240 miles to where I am temporarily living away from home.
Last Saturday at 6am we left a shell in Bristol and set off for wales so at 7am and first light we were about to start our first proper road.
I will not divulge the route here but we got up to Machynlleth by 9am for coffee but by 1.30pm we’re in Crickhowell at the Bear pub for lunch.
It never missed a beat, used no oil or water and needed fuel again at Abergavenny. What a trip!
Please, if you have friends that ask for help…..make the time. Oh and get out and have an early morning hoon. No cars, no bikes, no horses…..it was brilliant.
Looking good..!! Met briefly at Silverstone, Copper Red NC1… In front on the parade..
Glad to see you’ve kept all the BBR Decals.. Was considering going up to this but time escaped me.. good to hear that a number of 5’s represented though.. Pete
We went Skiing at Hemel again, and when finished a few minutes after 1800, only two cars away from the Precious, a lowered Eunos NA was parked where a girt big SUV had been two and a half hours earlier.
I feel sure I’ve seen it before, but with my brain fog I don’t remember where.
Sorry no pic - but picked up my Bestie and went out to the Three Blackbirds, Wood Ditton for a lunch and then a meandering drive - lovely bends, back to drop him off - Great Sunday activity!!
I would do that in a heartbeat. The trouble is though, most people experiencing problems keep that sort of thing to themselves and very few actually ask for help.
“Murly tuck” is a traditional Scottish food consisting of toasted oatcakes and the crumbs from the oatcakes mixed with milk, a dish that originated in the early 20th century for the children of farm cottages.
Sorry to hear about the hailstorm, I’ve never experienced it myself but over the years I have known several people who have had similar damage.
Also sorry to hear of the reception you had from the hotel staff, they are not the most fun people I have met but I introduced myself as a three time Monte competitor and they were very interested and looked to see if they had any photos (they didn’t).
You may have had a poor experience on this occasion but after more that twenty years of living in France I really think this is the exception, Paris excluded, even the french don’t like Parisians!
I drove into Liverpool. It’s been awhile since I driven there. My god it’s another level of madness mixed with very poor road surfaces, at one point I felt the car dip as i drove through a dip, it felt like I was falling into a sink hole.
On the way out, i stopped off at Costa to fill up with E5. 40l for £53.
Barrow Hill Roundhouse for their Rail 200 event over the weekend. Walking back to my car I though how stupid it looked sat amongst all the ‘normal’ cars (its covered in competition decals) only for someone to walk past and say how much they liked it. Oh well:)
Enjoyed a jaunt to the National Motor Museum Beaulieu in the mx-5. This time of year it’s not too busy. As well as the museum there’s the house, gardens and abbey to enjoy. A few photos attached.
