Well as we’ve not been for ages we visited Melton Mowbray, market day Tuesday. Picnic in the boot we then headed off to Belton house (NT) just the other side of Grantham for lunch and a walk around the grounds. Bonus as the roads were pretty clear, good driving roads too, plenty of twisty bits👍
It’s a lovely area, must get back sometime soon. We used to stop in Threshfield near Grassington pre MX-5 days with a touring caravan. Malham cove, Bolton abbey and up through to Kettlewell all bring back happy memories of walking holidays in the area. Don’t have too much of the Black sheep brew, I did once, powerful stuff. We’ve been since in the MX-5 but only passing through on day trips, enjoy👍
Ooh yes. I came back from a car show at Oakham via Melton Mowbray and Grantham so took that road just the other day. It is indeed a lovely route.
Putting me in the mood for a good Scottish Deep Fried pork pie tbh…

That looks good…!

I love the road from Melton to Market Harborough too, really good, made for the MX-5. As with all these roads you can get build up of slow moving stuff which can sometimes spoil the fun.
Hi Captain, no they’re Ultralite F1’s mate
I’m not too far from there so will add it to my list of roads to drive. Thanks for the tip.
I hear you on the slow moving traffic, particularly in a rural county like Lincolnshire but, if the sun’s shining and one’s in their MX-5 then it can still be a joy.
Do they still do fried Mars bars your way or is that around the North East as in England?
They do a nice Scotch pie in the Scotch Pie Shop in Fort William, now that is nice. ![]()
Thanks! I heard that road was amazing but driving it in such good weather was something else
Went out for the shop (sorry NickD), taking the long way, enjoying the evening roads when most of the SUV drivers and old ducks, both of whom forever going 40mpg in 60mph zones, are home.
Up to the hospital for a covid test and now self isolating prior to having a hammer and chisel to my neck on monday, meanwhile outside the sun is blazing…
May I ask what you’re having done?
If it’s disc replacement (guessed from the hammer and chisel description) there’s nothing to worry about. I had 3 done about 10 years ago, one of the first in the uk, (c34&5 iirc).
Yes it is, I also had a couple done 10yrs ago but need a 3rd doing (C4/5), I’m not so worried about the procedure, but as my health generally isn’t so good these days and I’m obviously 10yrs older I’m more concerned about something going wrong than I was last time…
Just got back from a blast along the North Norfolk coast. Plenty of cool cars out and about.
I’m sure you’ll be fine, but I understand the worry aspect.
I had damaged nerves and a lot of continuous pain that lasted for years after the op, but physically I’ve been lucky and had no issues to date - I still ride bikes, and tbh forget it was ever done.
Good luck on Monday, and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
