Which Castrol Transmax gearbox oil?

I have a 2007 NC1 Sport (6 speed).

I have done a forum search and Castrol Transmax gearbox oil has been recommended but Opie has 2 types of 75-90w GL4 oil, Multivehicle & Universal LL. Does anyone know which would be best in the NC1?

Also MX5 parts and Duratecnc state you only need 2 litres but some posts on this forum say you need more, is this true?

This is the stuff, you need 2 litres, put it all in.

Hi Mick

Castrol have rebranded their oils, you can’t buy Syntrans any more. The 2 I mentioned in my post have replaced it but I don’t know which would be the better choice.

Just make sure it says 75w 90 and GL4 on the container.:+1:
Castrol seem to rebrand/rename regularly, it turned from Syntrans to Transmax a while back.

This is the latest which is GL4 only, (which is what you need) and is in mine.

Thanks for the replies, have now got that oil in my gearbox and it is smoother shifting. Someone had previously changed the oil, washers were aluminium. The washers on the diff looked a lot older and made from copper.

Yep, it’s good oil and does what it says on the tin,(despite what some say).
I have alloy washers all round and no issues. :+1::slightly_smiling_face:
