At 19:00 I received an e-mail from Mazda UK telling me that my 30AE is “en route to the dealers” and I should be getting a call from them in the near future. When I collect it I should be decked out in my OC “Anniversary” polo shirt, and a pair of bright orange socks: I will be wearing other items of clothing for the sake of modesty!
I’m guessing that the other “First batch” buyers will have got the e-mail too!
Had an email from Mazda saying mine was being built so that says it will on the next ship or three. Im guessing an arrival date of early Sept based on the deivlery dates of those who ordered ahead of me. ( Im about two months behind)
So do I sell the mk3 now or risk a sale in late summer ( or take the part ex)…
Collecting ours on Thursday 4/7 - a convertible, but that’s our preferred choice. Hopefully a blast of summer for a few days before the Dinitrol treatment! (far more important than any ‘extras’ for what’s planned as a verrrry long-term keeper!)
Hi Paul. I’m intrigued, as I suspect other 30AE buyers are too. You say that your collecting yours on the 4th (tomorrow) as it’s your “preferred choice”. Do that mean you had a choice of delivery dates? The rest of us seem to have been given a date (the 10th) with some sort of “we’ll keep you informed if that changes” from the dealer, but no option at all. How did you manage to get one?
Sorry, no; my reference was to preferred choice of roof! A sort of 55% soft top V. 45% RF sort of mental argument…both great, but as a car which will hopefully be spared the perils of bad winter weather, the full convertible experience wins out.
We’d had the early June date - like other early orders, I think - which was then dropped back, with dealer’s guidance seeming to hover around the approaching weekend…
Should have said too, our dealer kept us informed without prompting - a rather more personal service than we’ve come to expect from main agents. Local enough to return for servicing, too, which is encouraging!

Well it seems that the left hand (my dealer) doesn’t know what the right hand (Mazda - or the other way round) is doing! In light of the e-mail I received from Mazda saying that the car “was in the UK en route to the dealer”, I phoned the dealer to arrange an appointment to finalise the paperwork etc., “no hurry” they said, “the car’s still in Zeebrugge and although we’ve called for it we haven’t been advised of an actual delivery date, so it certainly won’t be this week”. It makes me wonder if anyone in the chain really knows what’s going on!!
You are all lucky. I placed the order for mine towards the end of February, I think, (its so long ago and am getting on a bit now) , and the dealer is still giving me a delivery date of mid august. WTF
I ordered an RF. Its to replace my existing RF that I made the huge mistake of buying the automatic on its launch. My wife can only drive an auto but has never driven it in over 2 1/2 years, so good excuse to change.
Good news; picked up our car at the end of the afternoon - after 3 highly satisfied years in a 1.5, with no yearning for the bigger engine, we’re delighted. Not just an improved spec, but one that really seems to suit the car. Seats so much nicer (to use, as well as look at) than the standard leather of the upper range standard models. And while I refuse to criticise the older car, this one rides very much tighter and flatter, which is just improving on something already very good.
The other good thing is the dealership - Stoneacre in Doncaster. I was impressed when we almost bought our previous MX5 there; they appear to have long serving staff and it shows - there’s a recognition that looking after the customer makes sense. Needless to say, they’ll have our custom for servicing, too. So, for anyone within striking distance, I’d suggest giving them a try. I say this in stark contrast to experiences with other main agents (Mazda and others) we’ve had down the years.
No idea how to upload pix here, but for anyone who’s interested I stuck a couple on twitter for a pal’s benefit @PaulWhitehous64
Only one terrible, terrible, disappointment…the 30th anniversary floor mats didn’t arrive with the car and will be a few days away. That’s the weekend spoiled, then!
