Hiya Geoff, didn’t realise your Barney was a rescue? Great dog
Barrie
Just a little update on Bear & Barney! Been for a really long (and wet) walk through some local woods, daughter and grandkids too with their labrador .
The Cavachons turned from a nice off white colour to smooth black with the mud! So, when we got home it was bath time for our pair
A quick picture of them drying out!
They’ve only been together since Friday afternoon but are really starting to get along, for which I’m very thankful. Barney has ruled the roost since we got him and we weren’t sure how things would go with a new dog? All good so far though

Barrie
EDIT: Just noticed in the pic, there is a ‘limb’ from Barney’s first soft toy, all thats left of it!

Those eyes looking at you.
Bet they can get up to mischief too.
Thanks Mick, yes, double trouble!!
Barrie
Dogs always seem to get along together, if only more people could do the same.
There is often a solitary brief confrontation to decide who is worthy of being top dog, and then all will be well again. However if Barrie (or Mrs B) is always absolutely accepted by both as top dog then peace will reign.
Super little scamps! I must make sure SWMBO does not see any of those pictures because we just don’t have the room or free time to care for a dog as they deserve.
I’ve accepted that Mrs B is top dog Richard
Been that way for 35 years!
Barrie
Only 35 years I been there for 49 years , heck the great train robbers only got 15 years.
Between the showers I’ve managed to get the shed more or less finished. Made the shelving finished the bench off, a couple of strips of architrave and all varnished.
Next job getting some power in there.
My knee is playing up again, on a brighter note Mrs A had her stitches out this morning, all good and she’s took back the reigns of chief cook bottle washer.
Coming along nicely Mick, pity about your knees, nice that your good lady is on the mend though
Barrie
EDIT: Liking the cut out in the lower shelf on the bench.
Annoyingly I tweaked my knee this morning as I dusted around the TV.
We went for a walk Sunday morning to test the knee out, around 3 miles, it’s the first time we’ve been out for a week apart from a quick visit to Sainsbury’s. That felt good no reaction now the pain again.
The old fella two doors down just had a new knee, he’s back driving again after six weeks. I’ll have to borrow his crutches or stick.
Loving Barney and Bear. Would be nice to meet up with them one day when situations change.
Cheers Paul its all a bit of a mess at the moment, isn’t it?
Barrie
Mine is an exercise in re-use, economical building, make do and mend, in a Shed (Thread). Total expenditure this year on the garden shed is just under £200 for the vinyl floor plus about £60 on paint and assorted support brackets.
This last week I’ve been back in the shed having paused rather too long after putting down the heavy duty vinyl floor a couple of months ago. Many thanks to Geoff, Barrie, Robbie, et al for spurring me on with the vinyl floor fetish. I was lucky to find the slightly larger size (end of line in the sale Geoff pointed to) because it fitted almost exactly with almost no wastage.
Now at long last, after 34 years, the shed has been repainted (mostly). I’ve moved shelves around a bit taken previously (2006) from the old study (brown 1975) and more recently (2015) from the old laundry (white 1986). Highlights are an old kitchen table I made in 1971, a shelf unit of the same vintage built to hold amplifier, tuner, Goodmans Maxim, LPs and singles, some treads from the old staircase (1927) recycled in 1981 as shelves, the cement mixer I bought in 1980 and the garden marquee (2017) back in its box.
The only new items in this first picture are the two slotted uprights holding the adjustable shelves (right of the central pillar carrying the small hand tools), and a couple of the longer brackets supporting the two stair treads, and of course the white paint.
This second picture shows the wall the other side of the pillar from the door, again festooned with old stuff, many of the tools dating back to 1980 when I began the major building works (shed is 1986). The only new bits are the cunning handle holders, and of course the new floor. Even the lawnmower dates from 1980.
The wall to the right of these three and opposite to the window is still work in progress (needs paint), but I could not begin that until the rest of the shed had been done, and don’t look into the rafters where there is a lot of big stuff!
More pictures in another week or so.
I see you collect old wash up bowls like me, we’ve currently got six, only two in use.
I keep the others for oil changes, mixing small amounts of concrete etc.
I find it difficult to throw stuff out but I’m about to transfer some c**p and mainly gardening tools etc over to the shed. I might be able to get past the car in the garage easily then.
Thats the thing though, my garage is obviously a garage for the car but also a workshop with bench/vice etc, also storage for stuff and its only small for a garage. I have a storage box affair outside for overspill but its not a shed😩
We’re at max capacity in the loft but its mainly original empty boxes of all the stuff I’ve accumulated, mainly audio stuff!
Not easy keeping things in order ( which I don’t manage very well).
Barrie
I went through all my boxes in the garage (still) looking for a double 13 amp socket.
One of the sockets in the kitchen started getting warm the other day and the switch had broken.
Got two brand new single sockets and a light switch in the boxes. Put all the boxes back and went down to B&Q, I ended up buying a light switch too to match the new socket as it’s on the same wall, I wanted chrome finish really but settled for brushed steel.
One day I’ll I’ll get to use this stuff in the boxes
Morning Mick! Nothing to do with decorating really but have you seen these?
For your knee(s)?
You’ve probably seen them or something similar but thought it worth mentioning
Barrie
Last year we visited a charity shop in Ashbourne, we always keep an eye out as Mrs A wants somewhere to store her fabrics and all things sewing.
Chest of drawers will do she says, so the lady at the shop where we saw one said, take it it’s yours for £30. So after we had our day out in the MX-5 we popped back to collect the drawers in our daily driver. They had brought out a matching dresser too to fill the gap in the shop. So after a little head rubbing they convinced us we should take the two for £50.
I removed the mirror in the dresser so it’s purely a set of drawers, a £9 tin of furniture paint and wait for it some new knobs painted true red the same as my NC, a great addition to the spare room.
They were actually too good to paint but very dark wood so needed a makeover.
I’ve since bought some bigger knobs for the larger drawers and fitted them today, just had enough red paint left. Happy wife.
