Your barrow tyre must need some Back to Black by now.
Get weaving lad.
Blimey forced into some emergency plumbing this afternoon. Pool of water in the kitchen running down the wall from the bathroom. Easy enough fix but who put that pipe into the toilet cistern with hardly any room to get at it, me!
I’m about where I was yesterday now with my back, ****** up, sorry very sore.
Hi Mick, I also have a tip run booked for Saturday coming. I’m currently strengthening some of the decking to take the weight of an inflatable pool spa jobby. Plenty of old decking/joists and a 3m x 3m gazebo that just will not survive another year As you say, booked slot and solo, or at least, passenger supposed to stay in the car!
Barrie
You’re keeping busy then Barrie all these projects
I’m now regretting starting my latest project, originally it was to clear a space for a garden shed, I’ve got another eight weeks before it’s delivered.
One idea leads to another so I thought I’d crack on with a garden makeover at the same time. Haven’t got enough soil or garden waste to warrant having a mini skip and filling it. I don’t really want a skip blocking the driveway either, I’ve plenty of space to put it it’s just access to get it where I’d want it’s too narrow for the truck.
Tip run supposed to be today, I think that’s not going to happen now. An alternative is a Sunday run to a neighbouring tip which is an additional 5 miles away. They operate a number plate digit system, odd last number on your plate can go say Mon Wed Fri etc, even numbers Tues Thurs Sat and so on.
Yep it’s all good stuff and to top it all I’ve just had a text to say the small freezer I’ve ordered at Argos is ready for collection from Sainsbury’s store, so it’s mask at the ready to collect it. Ain’t got a clue if I can lift it, it’s only 30kgs so I might just manage that with the missus, but it’ll stay in the garage until I can maneuver it to where it’s going.
Missus had an appointment confirmed for the Doc Monday, I think I need to see him rather than her. B**** sciatica
Why do they put a miniscule amount of packing around appliances now?
Collected our freezer this morning, luckily it’s only a small one to go under a counter top, unpacked it and found damage. It’s right on the edge of the door, better packaging may have prevented it, only around 5mm thick polystyrene. It used to be big chunky stuff around to protect them.
Anyways after arguing about the amount of discount they would offer on damaged goods when I eventually got to speak to someone I’ve got to go through the process of doing it all again tomorrow when the replacement arrives. They’ll still have to shift a damaged one at a discount or return it to the warehouse.
I had a tiny wee dink on the side of our new freezer two weeks back Mick, but frankly it is so small. you’d have to know it was there to be annoyed. I decided, since it was going in my workshop, it was not worth it.
However, I’d judge yours to be worth it. Your eyes would always be drawn to it.
We suffered the same on our fridge freezer in the kitchen, I let it stand and didn’t bother as it was such an heavy lump to move. Call it unlucky but again we have damage on a new appliance, not this time. They offered £14 refund to keep it, wouldn’t budge on that, so it’s a replacement.
It’s going in the utility room but still in your face when you look at it.
Exactly.
Hmm, it is such a ‘wee dink’ it could probably be popped out, a bit of panel beating should be no obstacle to a car owner… many of us former owners of old bangers still have full sets of suitable tools.
The liners of freezer doors usually come out easily enough. I’d have had a quick look to see if it was accessible, haggled a bit more off, kept it and sorted the dent.
I first discovered this a few decades ago with our Hotpoing freezer in the garage. The door was forever getting condensation inside itself and dripping on the floor. When I took the liner off I discovered there was NO insulation, nothing, not even a sheet of loft insulation or polystyrene foam, just a void. I had some expanding foam which solved the problem; now no void, and the outside is much more like room temperature.
Must admit when I’ve had to replace things over the last few years, cooker, freezer, fridge, tumble drier, I’ve bought them from Appliances Online whose prices are hard to beat and deliver within 24 hours. The appliance can then be inspected while their truck is there and if damaged delivery rejected. Luckily none of the items were damaged.
Can’t beat John Lewis in my opinion for many reasons
I checked JL as I’ve also bought other electricals from them. Most freezers in the price range or other models were out of stock.
Luckily we have available stock, well next day delivery to the local store 3 miles away for pick up.
It’s being replaced tomorrow.
I did try our local independent electrical shop, good prices free delivery, got to wait weeks for stock to arrive though.
Annoyance is we sold a perfectly good freezer a couple of years ago, we reckoned we could do without it. Now increasingly we are short of freezer space, fed up of trying to cram stuff in the one smallish freezer.
I notice prices have risen on this type of product just lately, wrong time to buy but needs must.
Our microwave failed early on in lockdown. Checked around and Argos were as cheap as anywhere. Though about fetching one but then saw same day delivery at £3.95. Ordered and delivered in around 4 hours.
That all depends on having stock though. Shortages of plenty of stuff at the moment.
Other half is into sewing and wanted an overlocker. Did a bit of research and Brother machines came out well. Local specialist shop totally out of stock, Argos out of stock. John Lewis had just what we wanted at the same price with free delivery. Came in a couple of days.
We just got a 5 drawer Beco freezer for my workshop 3 weeks back. Had to be specific for one with out-door Freezeguard technology. Put our order in 2 months back with Radio City in Stirling, who had a back-order book o around 150 of just that model alone. The same model at that time had a back order at PCWorld of 600. The Turkish plant had been Cov-id closed. And that was just one particular model.
Seems we are not alone in future proofing pretty much… when not if …by a good few informed accounts Son of Cov-id or similar may hit the UK during the winter.
Meantime, also erected two x 5 shelve units n the loft which we will be gradually building up stocks of pretty much eveything over the next few months.
No way are either of us standing in Qs in the hissing rain on dark days.
The worst that can happen is we simply make much fewer shopping trips, and get Tescon or Iceland to deliver. Changed days. We are far more “get out and do it” folks by nature.
We’ll get out and do plenty…just as far from other people as possible.
Freezer now changed over, not bad service from Argos at least they got me the replacement within 24 hours.
Pain in the behind trawling into Sainsbury’s to do the swap but at least they are closer than they were pre Sainsbury’s amalgamation.
The worst bit was fighting with the mask and they understanding me, such as life is now.
Sorry what did you say? PARDON!
Glad all sorted and prompt service
Phew, hot today, had to stop work very early on today.
Feeling better after an enforced lay up, with back problems but gently does it.
Getting somewhere now with the back garden soon be cobble stone laying time, when it cools off.
Mick. Looking at the dryness of your soil I can see that your new turf is going to require a heck of a lot of watering for quite some time just to ensure its survival! Hope that you’re not on a water meter!
The grass that was, that’s what I’m taking up. Turned over to dry it out, lighter to transport.
We are going for gravel and wider borders.
I like grass OH not so much and she won on this decision to remove it.
Sorry Mick! Thought it was new turf. Silly me.
