There’s an old saying - “It never rains but it pours!”

“Someone” is looking after you Mick TBH. That was meant.
Nexflix, Amazon Prime, Pringles, chocolate & a bottle of something is my recommendation.

Brick edging now cemented in and a few plants transferred temporarily into the newly landscaped border. More to do there re planting.

Shed base dug out on the other side, ordering an eco grid base next week to cover the area.

Now I’ve got a big pile of concrete, soil and assorted c*** to deal with. That’s where the lawn was which has now obviously been dug up and took to the tip. I can recycle most of that concrete, it’s soft stuff, break it up and use it in the shed base

Tip run number…? gawd I’ve lost count tomorrow but at least we dont have to book now, just turn up.

Back is getting stronger aches and pains minimal  and I’ve started taking conifers out of the front garden too.:+1:

Morning Mick, glad you’re feeling better :+1:Our tips are still using the booking system. Mrs B booked two slots for Tuesday, a few hours apart. System didn’t respond with confirmation emails. No way of checking if its accepted? If you can’t make it, there’s no cancel your slot button? It just misses and they won’t reallocate for someone else? So booked two more for Wednesday, this time got emails straight back!
I’m taking all the bushes and old fence from bottom of garden.

Extended part of the decking over where the fence/hedge was and having a strip of decking for pots and tubs over the rest.

What about them moo cows getting in with that down?

Good work Barrie :+1:

I keep adding to my list, keep having ideas about changing the garden, I’ve already took part of the patio up which wasn’t in the plan to make room for herbs planting.

The best bit is when you go and buy all the fresh plants (not the paying for though), I’ve already got a few I’ve got in mind.

I look at it this way, I would have spent that money on touring Scotland this year, now it’s cancelled I’m concentrating on the garden revamp.:+1:

Superb view!

What happens when you have a nearly empty glass in hand and take an inadvertent step backwards into the void while chatting to your guests?

Can you climb out of the Ha-Ha trap?

Will the guests have enough strength left to help you climb the cliff?

Will the cows lick you better?

Tune in next week for the next exciting episode.

Morning Richard! There is a plan for that, I’m building a modern style fence using 20mm dia. conduit @ 120mm centres, for horizontal rails and 100x100x1200 (showing above ground) vertical posts, just bought some new forstner bits for the blind holes I’ll need to cut for the 2 ends and either side of the middle post, the other 2 intermediate posts will be speed bit drilled straight through and conduit sleeved through them. More decorative than strong TBH as the conduit is only heavy duty plastic rather than galvanised metal.

Then the boss called over to have a look at what his girls had been inspecting

I’d only just been in the field a minute earlier, kept an eye out but never saw him!
Gentle as he may look, I don’t fancy being trampled by a giant tin of Fray Bentos!:rofl:

It’s snooker watching day today, well I do love it.
Yep started raining yesterday as I got half the shed base levelled and down, still peeing it down now. Found more concrete to take to the tip. I thought it was a good idea around 20 years ago to bury under the gravel pathway.
Still saving grace I’ve no need to order gravel to fill that shed base, I can reuse most of what’s been dug out from the path and small pieces of concrete to infill.

Next job after the shed base, I’ve ordered the membrane to lay the new gravel down. Just a matter then of removing the shrubs above the shed to the gate ready for a small greenhouse. Then it’s a matter of find a site for a very small pond, we’ve already got the frog, he’s currently living in a small dish of water.

Well rainy days here in South Derbyshire, after an absolute deluge earlier this week I’ve been waiting for the ground to dry a little.
So delivery arranged for the gravel and trusty eBay and Amazon delivering my membrane, pegs and solar lights it was all go the last couple of days, in-between showers.
So after another 3 tip runs we managed to get shot of most of the unwanted concrete and general waste we’d accumulated.

The gravel arrived, nearly 2 tonnes of it, SWMBO donned her labourers gear and barrowed all of gravel into the back garden, I was working the shovel. Of course it had to rain before we were done.

More rubbish removed we now have a nice pile of reddish granite chippings, lovely jubbly. I said we would have too much, great, I can lose the rest in the shed base. Missus reckoned it would fill in nicely none left over.
I guess she knows best. I’ve got to buy a few small bags to finish off the bit around the shed base and some cheap gravel for filling in the centre, no big deal.

That’s it for today, back needs a rest, I’ve run out of materials and of course it’s raining again.:grimacing:

Stopped raining for a short while. Time to cut down a 5" plant pot. Wrong colour but it’s fits, I’ve a few black ones which will suit better. I’m thinking they’ll be easier to take out for cleaning or if we get frost/ice over winter. Meanwhile thunder and lightning stopped play yet again.

Well a wet morning here in South Derbyshire, looks like I’m stuck indoors for now. A planned walk at our local NT property is off.
Updates of what’s happened so far between the rainy days. Nearly there, still planting to do and an informal path to lay into the border and move some shrubs/roses around when they’ve finished flowering.

Not fixed the lights into the gravel yet, tried them in various other locations first. Cut the patio slabs to shape to fill in the gaps.

The frog now has his home, infact we have two frogs but I think one’s away on his hols unless he doesn’t like his new home. Anyway need a small amount of slate chips to finish that off.

Shed base all finished, that arrives early next month. Just need to clear above where the shed will be for a small greenhouse.
Yet another tip run tomorrow and that’s about it until I start the greenhouse base.

Mick, you’re probably aware of this, but just in case, if you’re moving shrubs around do not put a rose bush into a spot where you’ve moved one from, unless you do a soil change, there’s something they leave in the soil that will stunt/kill a new rose, I learned this years ago from the Royal National Rose Society, when I was a member. Hope this helps.

Right thanks, I’ll bear that in mind.:+1:

We have quite a few rose bushes, I like some but others would go if I made the decisions just on those. We live in harmony I don’t have a say if one rose should disappear, it’s my wife’s favourite flower and all of them stay.:grimacing:
Looking at the situation I think they will be moved just forward from their current position and a couple into new soil so hopefully no harm will be done.
One looks a bit scabby but we’ll see how it looks when moved.

I showed your excellent work to SWMBO, who likes what you’ve both done, and asks for more pics please.

Consequently, it was decided that our garden needed a ‘classical’ ornament, so an Armillary was bought from Black Country Metalworks. The design and finish is excellent for a handsome (but impractical) curiosity such as this.

However, four small but crucial bits of brazing were only lightly tacked and when it arrived the four support arms were no longer attached to the pedestal. (Dropped in transit?)

JBWeld to the rescue, since I didn’t want to ruin the antique bronze finish by brazing it properly. So it sat like this overnight, the JBWeld seems to fluoresce lighter bluey grey under the flash instead of almost black, odd.

And here it is assembled before going outside - final position still under negotiation.

I do like that armillary you have there. Wanted one a while back but then decided we will wait. Only talking about some sort of feature to go somewhere the other day.
Not really much more to show for now, it’s a work in progress and more planting to do, still here’s a couple more.

I put the base in on Saturday, the pillar arrived today, and its foot needed grinding flat so as not to rock. Half an hour later with a straight edge and the grinder and it is up. The pillar is solid concrete and weighs more than I do. Fortunately it is round so can be rolled and walked.

Final look.
