Random electrical stuff like brake lights blinking instead of indicators can be caused by localised earthing issues, so maybe look at that??
Thinking some more, you say the brand new switch is all thatās changed, so that has to be a suspect.
Could it be stuck in the on position somehow,?
Is it definitely the right part?
Do you have the old one??
Iāve swapped the new one and the old one over a few times and the same thing is happening.
It did briefly work but it got to the point where I had tried so many things, I wasnāt sure if that was a mirage or not!
Iāve been having lots of house work done and the car is now at my parents-in-laws so I havenāt done any more. Iām hoping that this weekend, I can change that!
Hi everyone, hope you are all well.
Happy New Year - 2022 (and 2021 ((And 2020))) were pretty rubbish as years go, so hopefully 2023 is good for you.
Sorry (again!) for the lack of updates; life.
Since my last proper updates, iāve been working on:
- Fixing the fuel leak
- Stripping the car
- Working on the paint
The fuel leak only presents itself at high pressure - i.e. when I am driving the car harder. Iām using the correct sized piping and properly tightened ring clamps but there still seems to be some leakage. Has anyone had the same? Is there such a thing as sealant that is resistive to fuel?
After tentatively looking at the idea of painting or wrapping the car myself iāve decided that itās best to leave that job to a professional. a) because iām not a proefessional, b) because my wrapping ended up looking like a Christmas present wrapped by a child and c) I havenāt gto any time.
Iāve stripped the car of any trim (and purchased lots of brand new Mazda trim pieces to fit apres the painting) and have been flattening the paintwork in preperation for the car to be painted.
I live near Stamford in Lincolnshire - can anyone recommend a good bodyshop?
Loads of good work done! Get the Montana gold rattle cans out ![]()
What are these Montana Gold you talk of?! Iāve been using:
Like with a lot of things on this build, I have over thought things to death, to the point at which my mind is no longer capable of thinking ![]()
With regards the fuel regulator and the three rubber hose connections, getting a good seal is proving problematic - are there any kits using hard lines that can be connected to the Mazda hardlines? It will also look nicer!
My only experience of Montana Gold spray cans was in my hobby but it was very positive. They sprayed beautifully from what I remember.
Is it possible to match existing Mazda colours.
Not sureā¦iāve been using the stuff from MX5 heaven which seems OK but iām struggling to get a finish iām happy with. Seems @Benji93 might know moreā¦
What did you use it on @TOGs_driver ?
Back in my bangers+rattle-can days I always cleaned and kept the best nozzles from dead cans as back-up for the future! Duff, splattery nozzles were all too common.
And I had to remember to condition the very-well-shaken can in a basinful of warm (NOT hot) water to ensure decent pressure, somehow it was always a chilly day when I needed to spray. Grrrā¦
Eventually a neighbour bought a compressor and I found a very nice second-hand DeVilbiss spray kit that needed reconditioning. It was a joy to use. Then the only problem was finding the right paint.
Soon after I finished the mortgage and could afford a new car. Then neighbour, compressor and DeVilbiss all emigrated to NZ along with his job.
Fortunately Iāve not needed to can-spray anything big for a few decades, and I hope never, ever againā¦
Fivealive, I wish you the very best of Good Luck!
I found the mx5parts colour spray can nozzles next to useless. Plenty of splatter and then clogged, spoilt a few parts I was spraying. Kept a few nozzles from some primer paint Iād used previously. They worked very well when changed over, a nice finish and returned to my spares box after use.
Hi Andy, it was small hobby pieces but the mist was very fine and it self levelled wonderfully. I remember thinking it was amongst the best spray cans Iād ever used.
A local book/craft store (now defunct sadly) stocked it at the time. There was quite a range of colours including some fluorescents as I recall.
They are available online I think.
Google web search
Itās a graffiti paint that comes in some rather bold colours, it sprays super thick and dries very fast Iām sure you could make it a good finish bit itād take a lot of work
BIG news.
The reverse light is working.
The reverse light and the fog light mod are working at the same time!
Hurrah!
Many thanks to @Benji93 who has been an absolute legend in providing me with help.
In other BIG news, my car is booked in at the MX5 Restorer for a full respray and an MOT in basically 10 weeks. Very exciting!!!
WoOoOo itās all happening now!
It looks like lods of my posts have disappearedā¦wierd.
ANyway they were mostly the same - whining about painting, reverse lights, ground issues and Rocketeer!
This update brings some good news. After all the messing around with paint, I was hit with financial constraints and coupled with the poor finish (I was looking for a standard which isnāt possible!) of the rattle cans, decided to go back to the 6 metres of wrap I had in my garage.
Having previously watched many hours of how to videos, I watched some more and set to it. Iām delighted with the results!
This was the closest colour I could find by a good brand to the Rocketeer red which they use on the cam covers.
Hopefully the new seal for the cam covers on my engine will be arriving in a couple of weeks, so (with a few days off coming up) iām hoping to get the whole car wrapped before thenā¦and dare I say itā¦MOT here I come?
That colour is tremendous!
Yeah, iām a big fan!
Just read this from start to finish (over the course of a few weeks!)
What an achievement and looking forward to any future updates ![]()
All the best,
Steve
Hi Steve!
Thanks for the comment - Iād lost motivation to update the thread but Iāve got lots of updates to make so Iāll do my best to get it properly updated this week.
Thanks again ![]()
