Thanks Bruce yes I’ve never been behind any 5’s rear bumper in almost 20 years of owning them? Done a few front ones though

Hi Geoff! I’m holding you responsible for all this! I can only thank you as your buying the Recaro HAS restored my interest in my car!! Really looking forward to getting the paint done now
Then I can start spending again!
Barrie
we’ll be out and about this summer pal
Can’t wait Geoff! your car is looking pretty ace on your other thread. Top car!
Barrie
At last, something to read and enjoy. Looking forward to next installment.
Thanks John. Just getting ready to go to bodyshop as I’m typing this. A thorough inspection of the car, followed by a price for the work. Subject to this being agreed, MrsB will pick me up from the shop and then will have to wait while it gets the treatment!

Barrie, I do miss working on mine (in lockup) in Norfolk for now. Can’t wait to get back to UK and see what 2 years of being undercover will look like. Be nice to see yours when it’s all done, are you having Recaro seats fitted? I would love them in mine. Good luck with the “rebuild”
Hi John, keep forgetting you went ‘overseas’ I’d love Recaro seats but that might just be a stretch too far
Barrie
Well, car has been taken to bodyshop and after a successful walk around and subsequent discussion about my expectations, (if that’s the right word) I’ve left it with them
They have assured me that both video and pictures, of each stage, will be done so hopefully I will be able to illustrate everything once I get the car back having seen an aging Audi 80 they are currently working on, if my car turns out as nice, I’ll be well pleased! Doors off (x4), bonnet, boot, front and rear bumpers all removed, seals etc, a very thorough job with a shine to die for
Barrie
Sounds good, best of luck. Hope the results exceed expectation!
Thanks Ian, fingers crossed it’s actually my next door neighbour, it’s his garage that’s doing the work!
Barrie
Sounds like a proper job Barrie
Have you got a time frame
Well, could be a couple of weeks Geoff? TBH, they asked me to just leave the car with them and not to natter them?
Might be 2022
you could be right!
Barrie
Paint is bought! Brilliant black (A3f) for the roof/windscreen surround/mirrors and aluminium metallic (38p) for the rest of the car The body shop started pulling it all apart yesterday but not sure how far they’ve got with that? They’ve picked up on the slight corrosion of the black window runners where they rub on the window seals, so removing them as part of the process to treat and repaint them.
Barrie
I’m as excited as you Barrie, can’t wait to see the result.
Big decisions here myself, whether to spend or sell on mine. You know that could take the best part of the year.
Got a body shop literally 10 minutes walk from me, did me a little paint job on my Mk1 but he’s so slow it’s unbelievable. He promised to spray the bumper within 1 week, 4 weeks later I had to hassle him to even start it which he did eventually. Great job though.
I was thinking of having my sills painted, a few stone chips noticeable and maybe the front bumper, not sure yet, loads of stuff going through my head.
It’s not easy Mick? Your car is very, very nice and a bit of painting to get it perfect, IMO well worth while bumper and sills plastic so no corrosion issues on the parts themselves. The shop I’m using, well, you can only go by what you’ve seen, etc.
This chap is my next door neighbour so easy to speak with him, this morning he told me his paint supplier thought it was a partial respray and was very concerned over the aluminium metallic matching? I’ve seen a few front end jobs that look a different shade? Obviously, as whole car being done, not a problem, I’m changing out the grill surround for the sport black version and he will refit new part as he’s stripping it all out anyway, again, no problem. Rear boot badge delete, he’s doing that and metal filling the two holes while sorting the small areas of corrosion under boot lip. Front edge of bonnet underneath has also got a little oxidation and slam panel paint has rubbed away a bit so that will be done too! Front badge removed and this will be black painted. Loads of little bits with no negativity, which sort of inspires me with confidence? Proof of the pudding though. Will keep this thread updated as the refurb moves along.
Barrie
My concern is paint match, doing certain panels will it match? I guess taking the whole car and just let him match the colour or remove the bits I want, like I did with my Mk1 and he only has those panels. He made a pretty good match before but that was brilliant black, not much to get wrong once he got the correct code.
Anyways sounds like you’ll have a pretty perfect looking car once done, a unique one, just like the others you’ve had.
TBH I’m leaning towards an NC2 probably the PRHT or more ambitious the ND but as things are ATM good quality cars in my budget aren’t popping up for me or have been sold.
Thanks Mick. I think true red might be a better colour to match than a metallic? I really like the PRHT version (even though it failed and cost me to get it right) when lid is down, the rear deck just finishes it all off rather than the holes at either side on the soft top. I did have the side covers on the red one but a bit faffy. Getting the right car, in budget, isn’t easy though.
