Not much left on car TBH! I’m pleased that sills are both fine but most of clips on covers needed replacing, quite a few were totally missing from presumably previous work? Ordered plenty from vehicle clips ltd, both sizes.
Just sat and watched Leeds Utd absolutely thrash Spurs!!
Anyway, during the match, my new Sport Black front grill arrived along with all important little blanking plate! So that’s going to body shop on Monday (probably before ‘cos I’ll just hand it to my neighbour😁) talking of which, he rang this morning asking about the rear number plate area on the bumper? When I swapped to smaller, rectangular 2 line plates, it left 2 holes where original plate had been? I’d put 2 little screws in the holes and forgot about them. So he rang to say could he remove them and repair the holes?
Easy answer, yes please! Also, issue with roof not working? Oh dear, here we go again! Forgot he’d already removed boot lid for prep, effectively the same as boot being open, boot lid temporarily back on and all working well!
I had a live video call with him and the car continues to be taken to pieces! Doors stripped down now for window runners to be refurbished. So pleased, so far with an excellent customer service
Hiya and thank you! Fingers crossed that it will be, like you, I love to see our cars at their best . I started with this one almost exactly 2 years ago but for one reason or another, never got round to finishing it (if you ever do finish them ) but now a much needed kick up the behind has got me motivated again! I’m really enjoying this bit, making the commitment to have it painted etc. Couple of mates, Bally3 on here has bought his RECARO edition, Safetymatch too, has acquired a NC Launch edition alongside of his Icon, so that’s rekindled my interest to get on with stuff
Hopefully, we’ll all be out at meets, runs, etc soon to enjoy these great little cars
All good progress, whilst chatting via WhatsApp, I asked for confirmation of rust situation (front of rear arches, inner sills and front inner wings) happy to report, all good requiring little or no attention!
Hi Mick, yes, I went to great lengths to explain this and they just smiled! obviously they agreed to my request, hopefully they will do a good job of the masking when you think about it, more so with a non MX5 specialist, there is a lot to think about in getting it right? These guys are very amenable and have not said anything negative, or tried to persuade me to accept anything other than what I want? In fact, as posted previously, they’ve pointed things out that I’d not thought about!

The clips for the sill covers arrived today, ready to pass on to body shop. However, not having seen them in the flesh before, anyone know if these are correct?
The large ones look ok Barrie, the smaller green one I just used clips the same as the door card clips. I guess if the green ones fit the holes in the body they’ll be ok.
The body shop should have the basic door card clips in I reckon if they don’t, nothing special.
Thanks Mick, was hoping you’d chip in! it was the bigger ones that concerned me TBH? Happy now, will pass them on. The smaller ones, I have loads of the door clips, only difference is the new ones are square at the back rather than round?
OK, first pics of main car, all masked up ready now for paint. More pics to follow as and when I get them. As you can see, wings/bumpers/bonnet/front and rear bumpers/mirrors/ door handles all removed as part of the process.
Hiya, I just want it to be as good as possible?
Roof, mirrors and windscreen surround were always going to be a colour change anyway, then when you got in close there was a small defect on rear boot edge, plus I wanted it debadging so holes to fill, underside was flaking around number plate lights. Then the bonnet, front bumper and front of wings were peppered with loads of tiny chips etc. Slam panel had rubbed paint away, under front edge of bonnet had oxidised a bit. I had side indicators from a mini which involved making OEM holes bigger? So that has been reinstated with metal to OEM size for round ones to go back on. One side of rear quarter had a defect, only small but in the middle of the panel. Sill covers had their share of chips etc. Doesn’t leave a lot plus, and this was part of the rationale, aluminium metallic is not the easiest to get a perfect match with? This way, everything will match? Well that was a lengthy explanation but I hope you can see where I’m coming from? All good fun and I’m really looking forward to getting it back again
