Emma Raducanu

And she’ll head straight for KFC for a 3000 Cal MegaBucket & KingShake with her pals.
Not.

The most noticeable things about the young lady (apart from her skill) are her warm, open personality and infectious smile, let’s just hope the pressures of fame and fortune don’t turn her into just another hard, sour-faced “professional”.

Agree with you 100%. She’s got off to a remarkable start, and she’ll have her moments and off days, maybe even a tantrum or two…! After all she is only human…!
Expectations of her will change now she’s won a slam, but if for some reason, illness or a bad injury happen I think she’ll have a great career in fashion, and then there’s her qualifications in finance. Not likely to become an “influencer” any time soon…!

Did a nice little interview on BBC earlier…

A-Levels won’t get you into the City (they don’t employ Runners anymore). The usual route is a BA in something, then MA, then the MBA , as the route leading to Equity Analyst. Or in my case, BS, PhD, years in Defence then into the City as a Director. I tend to wing the financials bit.

Within in hours of her win, she signed up on Weibo, the Chinese social media platform.

Well my instinct about this girl is that she has great personal quality as well as undeniable ability.
She is set apart by her great attitude and that is so refreshing when all around her are the polar opposite.
Given her background and existing connections, I would imagine a route into the city, if that is where she wants to be, will be facilitated.

Tennis is so popular on her own patch, that she can’t find a court to practice on at her own club…!

Emma is playing a homecoming event today. Being shown live from 12:30 on the Red Button and iPlayer, then repeated on BBC2 this afternoon from 3:15…

Nothing gave me more pleasure and pride than Emma Raducanu’s performance at the US Open Tennis Championship. She appeared the perfect female, charming attractive, strong and successful whilst retaining femininity.
The US Open success followed on very closely, a Wimbledon where this young girl had apparently melted down physically and mentally at a crucial stage of the competition.
What turned this around…well arguably Emma herself but it seems likely that coach Andrew Richardson, re-employed post Wimbledon after a long period, played a major part. Emma melted down at Wimbledon in front of a home crowd, walking distance or not far off from family, friends and familiar background.
From that really unfortunate but predictable test of a young girl we move to the US, away from any real support, coach and Tim Henman aside. Ok, mother in attendance but clearly Emma’s demonstrable apparent personality and demeanor stems from her father who is not there. I ask you, who aside from Andrew Richardson can possibly be responsible for this almost inhuman emotional and physical turnaround against the odds?
I cannot express how disappointing the sacking of Andrew Richardson is. There cannot possibly be any reasonable explanation.
Haven’t felt this way since Louise Redknap!

Rob, over and out.

Well said Rob! I feel exactly the same and I do wonder what will happen in the future.

“Sacked” is probably the wrong term. More likely he was employed only on a limited basis, and now his services are no longer needed. Contractors can’t really expect much more.

Its more likely the hand of her father. I don’t think he has much of a personal background in tenns, but he’s one of those who is challenging to convention.

He believes in a coach for every shot as there are no such thing as experts. Uh oh. Except for dads who think they are more expert than the experts. Seems a common story for tennis prodigies; strong parental support, and a winner takes all approach. 4 Grand Slams a year, each one is a different challenge, demanding a different campaign plan. And a different coach and team. Its going to get expensive if the most you will get as a contract is 3 months at a time.

Seems an enormous team assembled for someone fresh from her A-Levels. Which is the nub of it. Raducanu is not an ordinary schoolgirl finding success. There is an enormous machine behind her, which includes PR and persona creation.

Hmm, isn’t it usually the children who ghost their parents. Not the other way around. Strange.

The Mail online couldn’t wait to spew out a long piece about Raducanu “dumping” the coach who helped her win the US Open.

It was entirely predictable that after building her up and endlessly fawning over her, the Great British Press would rubbish her for clicks at the first sniff of an opportunity.

She’s a tennis player. I don’t know her. I’ll judge her, if I judge her at all, primarily by her tennis.

I can’t comment on those who are or were in Emma’s team - My opinions of her are what I’ve seen of her tennis career, Wimbledon and the US Open this year… She showed immense durability coming through all those matches to win the US Open, playing sublime tennis throughout, engaging warmly with the crowd and during media interviews… She is clearly a very talented tennis player with great attitude, a fun sense of humour, and a lovely smile…
I hope she has a great and long career in tennis with many slam victories, but either way, this young lady has and will continue to succeed in wherever life takes her…

On the face of it, it does seem a little strange, and maybe even a bit ungrateful on Emma’s part, to split with the coach who guided her to her amazing win in New York.

However, as I understand it, he was only ever hired for the short American swing of the season, and who knows, perhaps he was not able to, for professional or prior commitment reasons, or did not actually want the job full-time. This does not seem to have been totally explained yet, and I have not read any article reporting his side of the story.

Using the word ‘split’ in the news article, would to me, seem to indicate a mutual / amicable separation. I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see.

Remember, the press like to stir any pot available. As much as we all, for the most part, like the freedom of the press angle, they do have their unsavoury dark side to be aware off.

On a brighter note Emma has donated her US Final Outfit to The Tennis Hall of Fame for display…

Well lets just hope it was really, really poor PR and there is more to this than my gut feeling says there is.
I would be absolutely delighted to be proved wrong.

Unsurprisingly Emma has been given a Wild Card for Indian Wells tournament…
Hoping she has a good one…

didn’t Andy Murray have 10 coaches in 18 years? Djokovic has had many changes too. Perhaps it’s the norm in tennis.

Just found this… Emma at 11 years old saying “Maybe it will happen one day”
7 years on it did…
