- My model of MX-5 is: 4. __Mk3.5
- I’m based near: Skipton
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Front Fog?spot Lights
I am considering fitting front fog/spot lights to my 2012 Mk 3.5, possibly incorporating DRLs at the same time. I’ve read most of the posts on here regarding the kits supplied by MX5 Parts, and I’m reasonably confident about fitting etc. But I do have a question concerning the steering column light switch and realize that I will probably_need to replace the existing one. My question is, will I find all of the necessary wiring already in place, at both ends, or will I need to run a new wire.
I’ve not looked at the fuse box yet, I’m hoping that whilst I may need to insert a fuse into the designated slot, the wiring will be in place.
Any help will be much appreciated
The NC never had DRL’s fitted, not even to the later models when most other new manufacturers/models around that time had them fitted at factory. So you won’t find any wiring or switching provision provided on this model.
Many kits available to retro fit, a poplar fitment are switchbacks which incorporated a combination led bulb into the front indicator bulb position, it then acted like a factory fitted DRL . Of course you need to wire this in and pick up alive feed. Another one is the combination of the fog lights as you mentioned, they supply the kits and switch, a bit expensive.
Someone will be along with further help, I had them fitted on my last NC but the previous owner fitted them.
Below, the DRL cancelled on the OS replaced by the indicator flashing.
If you have the fogs fitted, then it is possible to replace them with the Fog/DRL Vinstar kit from MX5parts. No changes to any switches, no relays, no resistors, no mods to Mazda wiring and thus reversible. Not the cheapest, but from my point of view the simplest and most reliable.
I did this to my 2008 NC,
Then I took it out to fit into my 2014 NC where it’s the same, except the later fog-lamp mounting requires surgery.
The wiring is in place from the column stalk, though the loom towards the front bumper. Mk3.5 cars without fog lights left the factory with the fog light fuse already installed in the main fuse box.
Whether you are fitting new or second hand fog lights you will need to connect the wiring of the lights into the already in place wiring.
The column stalk is a direct swop of your existing type for only rear fog light with the replacement for front & rear fogs.
