Lovely. Did the car come with the Soul Red mirror shells or did you retrofit them? I’ve found that the shells can be purchased from MX5Parts and I’ve thought of getting black ones for my grey RF (see pic in this thread). If you changed them yourself is it a difficult job?

Hi, thabk you. It came as standard for this edition. I bought this 2yrs old. I think you can get them though.
I’m looking at getting my callipers painted professionally with cour matching with the soul red. I’m going to pay a lot more for it, but as I’m not changing it anytime soon will think it will look awesome matching the mirrors.
I’m also considering getting the black bars at the rear of the seats sprayed Soul red too, I’ve not seen anyone do that so.my car will be unique.
What do you think?

Well, my feeling is that too much colour contrast starts looking tacky and (forgive the expression) boy-racer-ish. On highly-visible areas it is difficult to achieve a factory-quality finish, I suspect.

Careful with your callipers. I used E-Tech calliper paint which is designed for the purpose. Although a professional bodywork place could colour-match Soul Red the snag is that bodywork paint is not suitable for callipers because they can get very hot and they get a lot of salt etc from the road.

I painted my callipers because the car was just totally ‘grey’ before. I think it’s an improvement. You could choose a dark blue, silver or black for yours, perhaps.

One thing I have found is that even after 3 coats of the right paint and over a week to harden, the paint is still very vulnerable to damage when the wheels are refitted.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m getting them.done professionally with a 4yr guarantee. Hopefully won’t be doing too much mileage in the first month though. Cheers

I think this looks good I like it  Think the Shells over the mirrors is a little too over the top tho I have painted my callipers gold (Hammarite) I thought it looked nice, but I do like the Soul Red!

I might change mine to the same & get the “Front Air Dam Skirt” Soul Red too. It does look good  :grinning:

No fancy coloured callipers here but my centre caps are a little bit different . Picture was take on the way home from Llandudno, stopping off at Rhos on Sea earlier this year.

Looks fabulous.

New to me three weeks ago , lovely little car to run having now retired. Currently standard and to be honest not really intent on making any mods, although there are maybe a few that should be done.

  1. Will probably do the ‘stubby’ aerial, not that I dislike the standard ‘whip’ bit because reading through this thread it seems to provide better reception in DAB.
  2. It may be considered ‘boy racerish’ but considering getting the callipers painted red, if only to match the other soul red touches of the Icon.
  3. Could do with a new set of boots. Those fitted have life but are probably the originals and tyre life is most likely at an end.
  4. Bonnet and boot badges to be colour coded, although at present I cannot make my mind up to go gloss black or again soul red.
  5. Could do with a new back box to provide a little more sound from the engine. Nothing outrageous, just a gentle burble to provide audible pleasure.

I am also the third owner of this car, so if it previously belonged to someone else who can provide a bit of a back story to its previous life it would be appreciated.

I’m not sure on whether to keep the stubby on the car as I think the standard aerial gives better reception.

I can’t tell any difference in reception so I have kept the stubby one on.

For anyone considering the change the original aerial unscrews … though mine took a little encouragement and I was terrified of snapping it off.

The stubby ones are inexpensive. Mine was £10 at the Summer Rally.
