Mx5 mk3.5 electric roof

  1. My model of MX-5 is: nc
  2. I’m based near: hemel hempstead
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __looking for a driverside electric drive and mechanism for the power roof. Must include the switches etc. Alternatively someone who can fix one ( the drive cog is slipping)

If you’re very lucky it may be just a matter of tightening the bright silver bolt on that side

Have a look at this link.

Never that lucky! Done all that - I can see the drive cog slipping! So I strip it and try to bend it a bit to bring the gears closer as there is material still on the cog or try to replace it!

Hi, I bought a SH Motor and Quadrant/Drive assy from PM Sports cars near to Derby, paid £50 iirc and it solved my problem, I had a broken tooth on one of the cogs.

The drivers side motor is the easier one to remove as it doesn’t have the cable attached. The motors do come up on eBay, or try searching for an MX-5 specialist repairer and see if they can supply one from a breaker.
You will need to remove the deck (just 4 bolts but watch out for the thin shims) before starting on the motor. Both motors silver bolts have to be undone too as you will have to get the cogs aligned before finishing the job. Use blue grease on the cogs.
Ask for photos of the cogs on the motor you are buying and if possible its age.

In the Spring 2020 mag. linked to below there is a guide to the job with pictures.
