I have my storage above the lights, and the underneath of the shelf is covered in foil to act as a reflector
I also built an outside storage bin for the gardening equipment

Lighting is all about where you point it. Let me give you an example. At night your headlights illuminate the road directly in front of you and have a sharp âcut offâ between the lit bits in front and the dark bits at the sides. When considering any lighting task you must first ask âHow much light do I need and where do I need it?â If you use reflectors on your light fittings then the light will go where you want it to go, do you really want to illuminate the roof void of your garage? Probably not. Do you want to light down the sides of your car? Probably yes. Do you want to light the engine bay? But do you really want to work in your own shadow? I suggest that you use your current fluorescents or new LEDâs length wise down either side of the garage (ie in the same orientation as the car) and position them about 300-500mm outside the sides of the car. So if the car is 2metres wide your lights will be spaced about 3metres apart and run from the front to the back of the garage. You will find that the stuff on the walls will prevent reflection from the walls onto the car, so if you can move it to somewhere else this will help, painting the ceiling white and the floor a shade of light grey will add a little more reflective light onto the car, but not much. This type of lighting is called general lighting. You will also need âtask lightingâ this is normally in the form of a beam of light, like your headlights or a torch or a reading lamp. Consider having something like an angle poise lamp attached to a roof truss that is immediately above the front edge of the front bumper so you can direct light into specific bits of the engine bay. You should be able to buy reflectors for your current light fittings, or you can improvise and use aluminium foil and form it into a parabolic reflector shape.
Hope that helps!

Hi russ thanks for your in-depth contribution⌠but have you read all the thread and seen pics âŚ
I have de cluttered, added more lights , (more to fit when they arrive,) and painted ceiling and floor ( and more work on floor to come )
Regards
That was a surprise!
I like it. Brightâ:sunglasses:
yes, the yellow has been sat waiting in my garage for a few months now.
i got the light grey as a freebie , so thought it would be good to go over the dark green to lighten it a touch before the yellow
Yes, but it will make you smile every time you go in there!
Looking forward to seeing the end product with the car in too.
Looks great but will be interested to see if it becomes an insect magnet if you leave the garage door open!
Excellent point!
Colours matter.
Iâve noticed the Soul Red attracts a lot of insects when I clean the car, whereas the Icy Blue seems immune.
Itâs forty years since I built our garage and itâs not been painted again since. This excellent thread is shaming me into having a blitz on it, and Iâm very tempted by those interlocking mototiles mentioned by GarethC, but the choice of colour is the sticking point when spending so much; no mistakes allowed.
Our garden shed is only six years younger, also with a concrete floor and is another place they would be great in.
Now thereâs an idea for a Lockdown topic, âShow Us Your Shedâ. Mine had a good sorting out the other day.
Or even, show us your shed residents, mice been at it in mine again
Hmm, some of my regular shed residents live in where I forgot the last fillet in the bargeboard. The camera was about three feet away, looking through from behind the closed iron gate. If the gate was open, no way would they come close, but shut they knew I was no threat.
While on the bird theme
Iâm in between cars at the moment having sold this in December
But I am actively looking for itâs replacement
That was a great motor and enjoyed reading about the mods you did at the time. Good luck with your search for a replacement.
Well, how have I missed this? I remember when Geoff first posted about his garage a while ago but never revisited the topic. Great job there Geoffâ:+1: like what youâve done and Iâm loving the yellow! Reminds me of my time with my '94 J2 Ltd.
