Save the date Sunday 24th May: trip to Helmingham Hall Spring Plant fair and Artisan Market

I will pop a post up closer to the time with meeting point for us to convoy to this event together.

Event details below

An exciting day out for experienced and novice gardeners alike

Join us for a trip to the 2020 Plant Heritage Plant Fair & Artisan Market which is set to be bigger and better than ever before! With specialist nurseries, artisan products, conservation zone, entertainment and children’s activities, we’ll have something for every taste and age. Plant Heritage is a charity dedicated to the conservation of rare garden plants.

Garden Zone

Featuring nurseries from near and far with lots of unusual and popular plants for sale, including trees, ferns, grasses, alpines and much more. We’ll have local National Plant Collections and the Suffolk Plant Heritage propagation group on-site, selling rare plants which are not easily found elsewhere. They will also be selling a wide range of garden accessories; from antique garden tools to modern sculpture and garden furniture.

Conservation Zone

This year they are proud to welcome a number of Garden Societies, Local and National Charities to our Plant Heritage Spring Fair. They’ll be on hand during the day to give specialist advice about maintaining plants, gardens and different types of wildlife.

800 Free Plants

They will be giving away 800 plants to the first 800 visitors to claim them. Giving a plant away is the best form of conservation. This years plant is Erigeron glaucus ‘Sennen’. Erigeron is a large genus of daisy-like plants. The species E. glaucus is native to the coastline of West Coast USA, where it grows on beaches, dunes and coastal bluffs. It is moderately low growing with branching stems, and produces rounded spoon-shaped leaves. The cultivar ‘Sennen’ we assume has occurred from Sennen Cove in Cornwall.

Garden Marquee

The Garden Marquee will host a wide range of workshops throughout the day, including lots of insider tip and tricks. Their Plant Doctors will also be available to offer advice on any gardening topic, identifying your mystery plants and plant problems.

Artisan Market

A wide range of exhibitors offering everything from artisan foods and handmade soaps to vintage French collectables and pottery. As well as the wonderful stallholders, we have fantastic entertainment including Chocks Away vintage dancers, live music, birds of prey and children’s activities. There will also be lots of lovely local food and drink, making the fair an ideal day out for gardening clubs, families and similar groups – coaches are very welcome.

Situated in front of the magnificent moated Helmingham Hall, visitors to the plant sale can also enjoy Helmingham Hall’s Grade 1 listed gardens, including dramatic borders, knot and herb gardens, nineteenth-century parterre, ancient deer park and Victorian kitchen garden.

This year we will have Norfolk Five stands at two major local shows. Classic Cars by the Lake on Sunday the 6th of September, and Festival of Wheels at Ipswich on Sunday the 2nd of August.

Details of how to join this events will be added to the forum closer to the time. For now here is an overview of both of these great events.

Classic and Sports Cars by the Lake was the idea of Andrew and Gina Long in 2010. The event has been organised and run by The St Nicholas Hospice Special Events Committee plus a number of other key volunteers with the sole intention of raising funds with 100% going to St Nicholas Hospice Care, based in Bury St Edmunds, providing key services in and around West Suffolk and Thetford. Since its conception we have raised in excess of £290,000 for the Hospice with the event growing in size, quality and fundraising year on year.

It’s a great day out for all the family and in aid of a great local charity with 100% of the proceeds going to St Nicholas Hospice Care.

An intoxicating mix of cars, bikes, trucks and all things motoring come together over two superb days for the Festival of Wheels. We will be going on Sunday the 2nd of August.

The largest event of its kind in the South-East, the Festival gathers together the east coasts rarest and most glamorous cars, bikes and trucks. The festival of wheels is a unique event created for those with a passion for motoring in general.
