PRHT won't close

I think the fuses for the PRHT are 11 and 12. In the engine bay fuse box. 30A. Sadly I feel life isn’t going to be that simple but no harm in checking.

Hiya and thanks, I’ve checked them and KEY2 and ROOM. Got that from Miata.net as you would expect, all were fine

Just come off the phone with Mazda Leeds, cars booked in for diagnostic, £108 inclusive. Can’t get it in until the 21st ( week on Friday) though. Hopefully that will shed one light on things.

Have you tried mx5 city.

They moved from Conisborough to South Kirkby recently, so only 35 minutes away from you.

They might have some ideas.

Thanks, I’ve used them before and found them OK  I’m booked in now for the diagnostics with Mazda as they have full access to the correct equipment to do that. Once I’m armed with the report, I’ll hopefully know what’s wrong and can go from there. Good call though, as you say, not too far away  I don’t like asking if I’m honest,  they would need the car to have a proper look anyway I’m sure and I don’t want to be trying different parts swapped out that might not be the problem and then still have to get a proper diagnostics done in the end. I guess cars have moved on and are very ‘techy’ these days. The roof has its own control module, fed by many different sensors, even the speedometer has a say  Fingers crossed that it won’t be too expensive to repair ( who am I kidding )

Thank you for your input.

A frustrating problem Barrie and a real shame it’s happened at a time when you are progressing well with improvements to your MX5. Let’s hope the Mazda main dealer can identify the fault quickly and it’s a simple fix. I really enjoy reading your posts and hope things are back on track asap.

Hope you find the fault without the dealer visit Baz, see you both on the 7 July, cheers Rob.

Hi Rob, it’s too late, already booked  TBH, I think I’ve gone as far as I can without the diagnostic equipment being used. At least I’ll have the printout and could potentially get the bits myself and fit them. I’m also not sure if there needs to be a proper reset of the control module after work has been done? Who knows? Who cares?  It will get fixed its just at what cost  I’ll be at Cearwys on the 7th with Dave, regardless.

Hi Andrew, thank you for your comments, oh how nice would it be to have a manual soft top again  Still moving forward with car though, can’t seem to stop myself!

Mazda’s PRHT diagnostics appear complicated (& comprehensive!) - see p23 onwards within the publication available via this link:-

Hi Andy, exactly as you described (complicated & comprehensive)  this may prove useful in interpreting the diagnostic printout? Thanks for the link, I read something when trawling the Internet for help, pointing to this (I think) but didn’t follow it up, so thank you.

Hi appreciate that may be stating the obvious but have you checked that the boot is shut and or boot sensor working. Recently discovered on our 3.75 that the roof won’t operate if the boot lid just cracked open.

Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for your input to this ongoing issue  I checked the roof operation after it went off on one, as follows.

  1. Boot lid closed, rear deck panel raises/lowers but won’t complete the roof  closing cycle

  2. Boot lid open, rear deck panel inoperative, no movement at all

This led me to believe that this wasn’t an area of concern as power is getting to the mechanism but something else then prevents the roof itself from raising.

Often, you can’t see the woods for the trees as they say, so suggestion such as yours are appreciated and obvious as they may seem, no stone should be left unturned! Thanks again.

Hi all, since managing to get the roof back up manually and latched, when I select a gear, the warning beep sounds continuously. I guess it will, as nothing’s properly seated, connected anymore. I’ve got a bit of a drive on Tuesday to Seat Surgeons and I wonder, does anyone know how to disable the beep? Suppose I could use a set of earplugs  Not even sure where it’s emanating from? I did think it might be built into the panel where the hazards and roof control are but before I attempt to tear things down to get at it, I just thought I’d try and get clarification on here?

thank you

Barrie

have you got some strong tape to hold the deck section down barrie, wouldn’t want that flying up on the a64 ???

be like one of those big , gay wings them young en’s have

I’ll just go steady Geoff!  Anyway, if it flies off, I won’t hear it for the ear plugs!

Barrie

Just a thought - perhaps disconnecting the roof control module might stop the beeping?

By Jove! He’s got it!

Read your post Andy, down into garage, panel off behind passenger seat, disconnected the larger of the two plugs and hey presto! Red light for roof comes on with ignition, then goes off, select a gear, no buzz! Result!

Thanks Andy, I’ve had a great deal of help here, one way and another, one member even checking my power window switch out via hi-res pictures and comparisons with his own switch etc. Absolutely made up guys, thank you everyone. Now fingers crossed for Friday! Hope I can report back with an economical conclusion to the roof issues.

Barrie

Best of luck for Friday Barrie!

My hunch is that this could be a microswitch-related issue, if that turns out to be the case then hopefully it shouldn’t be too expensive.
