What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Washed it then dented it.:weary::disappointed_relieved:

It was a case of what the **** and how have I done that?

I deduced that I had somehow pushed against my daily driver whilst manuvering on the driveway, never felt a thing whilst in the car. It pushed the front bumper in around and above the fog light.

Borrowed the wife’s heat gun and unfastened the arch liner that side, 20 mins later and it’s more or less back as good as it was. Just a slight tweak again with the heat gun as should look 100%. Luckily no paint damage, no creases not even a mark left👌 I’m lucky😼

In the words of Monty Python “You luck, lucky bar steward!” Now, are you absolutely sure that your wife didn’t do it?

She only occupies the passenger seat, can’t drive, doesn’t want to drive.

So you were looking at, and trying to work out the shopping list you had just been presented with when the incident occurred

That’s her story and I bet she is sticking to it!!! Very suspicious if you ask me----------which obviously you didn’t!!!

That Gunmetal colour really suits the MX5 I know that is not the correct colour name, But It really is one of the best colours It shows all the lines to perfection. And although it’s only in the mind
They look more substantial and solid in that lovely colour, Mazda Got that spot on,

I have them as well 3 years now nice little mod

Finally fitted a set of 18mm reversing sensors to my NB. Used the photo from the MX5city website as a guide for their location. Measuring the holes took a long time, double and triple checking because the bumper is all curves. However the actual cutting and fitting went OK, but had to give the sensors a spray over their default silver shade as it wasn’t anywhere near 18G Racing Silver. The paint had plenty of time to dry as routing the buzzer wiring between the boot and the cabin was a bug
ger!!

I know reversing aids are for hairdressers :zipper_mouth_face: rather than proper drivers, but I do have problems estimating the allowable gap when reversing into a relatively tight space.

I have had reversing sensors fitted to all our cars over the past 15 years. Wouldn’t be without them, neither would the family members.

I had a nice drive to pick up my new overmats.

They are sturdy, fit well and are reasonably priced.

The staff at Coverdale were particularly helpful, especially the trimmer who brought out samples for me to see in the daylight. Also, he helped with a solution for two clips to be used on the drivers side.

Had another niggle with the window controller. It’s worked fine until last night/this morning.
Drove to work this morning (hood up), and when I opened the door on arrival the window dropped slightly as normal, but when I got out and closed the door, the window didn’t nip back up. It dropped halfway. Which is how I found it when I came out the house this morning, so it must have done it when I got home last night but I didn’t notice. Good job it didn’t rain!

I got back in, started the car, wound the window all the way down, then all the way up, then got out and it behaved normally.

Do I have a faulty unit? Or does it need a firmware update to debug? I saw on one of the youtube vids on them, they have a USB port for plugging into a computer, although that only spoke of altering the settings/behaviour of it.

Just picked up my ND from my friendly local mechanic with new rear discs and pads, and then exercised my extensive mechanical skills by changing the interior light bulb, and replaced one of the screws holding the rear bumper in place, which was strangely a different shape than the others, and rusty
no rust anywhere else so a bit perplexed by that - I suspect a haphazard mechanic employed by the previous owner.

Oh and fitted a stubby aerial a little while ago (another extremely technical job(!)), and collected all the various paperwork and documents I have (including an original brochure and pricelist from eBay) into a nice folder.

Well if you have managed to do that without blowing a fuse you have done better than many, myself included. I salute you for your skill and dexterity. :grinning:

Plastic tool for removal (one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09WHBN93V) and then made sure the switch was in the “off” position whilst I was putting the new one in.

Although I got that last bit 100% wrong as it blinded me the moment I got it in place
 hey ho. Fuse intact!

None of that for me. I see ‘Disconnect battery before working on electrical circuits’ as a challenge not an instruction.

I received new horns and wired them in to replace the ones that had stopped working, only to find that they still dont work.
I had previously checked the relay and power supply, all good. I have now put 12V directly over the contacts , battery + and earth, and still no response. Crestfallen. I am.a bit in disbeleif that i have been sent a pair of duff horns.

Hi JJW
I afraid this is exactly what happened to me as I said in my previous reply. I asked them about duff units and updates and got nowhere, and when I mentioned it on this forum GarethC replied to say he fitted three units and they all played up. I gave up in the end and removed it. It’s a shame Roadie doesn’t make his own version because his things always seem to work (are you listening Roadie?)
